I don't get why an FPS or TPS has to be unoriginal or uninspiring.

They don't have to be... though that ends up being the case... 80%+ of the time or so.

That's why new and unpopular genres are usually the ones favored by those who don't like the "same old".  Said genres have to inovate and provide new and great expierences.

Even then if you do come up with somethign origonal or inspired it still might suck.
