THQ news - de Blob sells over 700,000, Nintendo is THQ’s competition, unannounced Wii game coming, DSi support on the way

THQ CEO Brian Farrell was at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference, and he had a bunch of interesting info to share.

- de Blob has sold over 700,000 worldwide, retaining the original price of $50
- Big Beach Sports has sold over 1.3 million worldwide
- THQ has an unannounced Wii game that is “very focused … niche”
- THQ sees Nintendo as the competition: “The competition on the Wii right now is from Nintendo. That’s what we’ve got to attack. The people who buy Nintendo games, [we want to] get them to buy things like de Blob.”
- THQ is bringing their “biggest brands” to the DS, and see new opportunities thanks to the DSi features

Undertracked isn't it?

Around the Network

This is 700k shipped to retailers. Not sold to actual people.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

It's not overtracked at all.

700k shipped 580k sold. That seems about right. Hopefully it will hit 1M this year.

Big Beach Sports seems tracked good as well

Around the Network

That's shipped so Vgchartz is around the area of what should be sold maybe a little more, a little less but not off by much...

Former something....

If it was shipped wouldn't they have given a specific number?

The way they said it "sold over 700,000 worldwide, retaining the original price of $50" kinda makes it look different. :S (sales to customers)

@palancas: publishers use their own data in official statements, and they only have shipment data.

580k sold through is probably a little low so I'd say slightly undertracked.

At any rate while 700k may not seem impressive compared to some HD game sales, as THQ says - it's profitable thanks to Wii's low development cost and not at all bad for a new IP which new gameplay. De Blob has a future!

This is good to hear. Hopefully they make a second one and keep building the series.
