its interesting to note at 3:53 i have never seen grafical effects like that before.

Volumetric effects have been in numerous PC games, but I guess its something new for you console kids.

Well we know it's been done on PC games, what hasn't :P.

It's really impressive when it goes on a Console game though :).

  • 2010 MUST Haves: WKC, Heavy Rain, GoWIII, Fable III, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Darksiders, FFXIII, Alan Wake, No More Heroes 2, Fragile Dreams: FRotM, Trinity: SoZ, BFBC2.
  • Older Need To Buys: Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Deadspace, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2.

There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.

i seriously dont understand the fanboyism. it makes gamers want to exile all idiots from sony and ms into planet helghan or hell to annoy the dead as punishment for their sins.

1. gears2 is an awesome game and any GAMER who hasnt played it is missing out.

2. killzone2 from the demo has lived up to the much demanding ever growing pain in the ass hype. any GAMER who doesnt play it will be missing out.

3. the video is a ENGINE comparrison not a texture, lighting or recoil comparrison. that means the ENGINES are being compared on what CAN and CANT/IS NOT done on either game.

4. for any ignorant fanboy, the killzone2 intro shown is INGAME graphics so get over it.

5. i am not brilliant at fps or tps, i always play on easy difficulty level, but i had no problems with gears arcade feel or killzone2 sim feel controls. its as they say, people looking to complain will always find a way!

6. stop being fanboys, this site is for gamers. do yourself a favour and go enjoy and celebrate both games, i wouldnt see these fanboys arguing if they were offered salma hayek or eva mendez for the night. favouritism then would fly out of the window and commonsense would kick in. i suppose the reality is fanboys lack commonsense...its a shame.

In at least my defense I was just trying to point things that other people were negatively attacking. Looking back I shouldn't have kept the recoil arguement going. I guess I'm too caught up in my defensive anticipation of my copy. A game like Killzone 2 doesn't need to be defended. The game can defend itself. I apologize for being part of a pointless arguement.

wow!!!

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Both games look quality. Killzone 2 and Gears of War 2 look better than most games in either system.

Visually, if you want to say KZ2 looks better than GearsOW2...I'll say sure whatever...in looking at the video, I saw nothing to make me say...I gotta have a ps3, which is what the intent is...it's not for people who already HAVE the system. The major comparison ,will be first week's sales data...that's where the REAL comparison is, since...which one will be the superior product...my money is on Gears of War 2 over Killzone 2! In fact, I wouldn't be surprise to see Gears of War 2 take out booth Killzone 2 and Resistance 2...in that math, PS3(2+2) = 360(2)!

one game selling more that other doesnt make that game better.

in fact if game A sold 500k more than game B............game A grafix sound gameplay arnt increased or decreased at all.

you cant play sales only games.

i havent played gears 2 yet, ive played 1 though and its pretty good. but there is no way in hell i would pick up gears 2 over my killzone preorder, no way.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Sh*t man, PC world is so advanced compared to console...I can't believe some PS3 fanboys dare to pretend the opposite.

I remember playing Mirror's Edge on my 360 and find it pretty good looking... but when I saw the nvidia demo with the bullets ripping off the covers... I said... ok.. that is for the next gen console ...

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

Maybe that is due to the fact that PC's have to have hundreds of dollars to keep it superior to the PS3.

I think this video will put paid to naysayers on both sides.

It is clear from this that Killzone 2 has a very slight but noticeable graphical advantage over Gears of War 2.

It really shows what can be done with double the development time.

GG had to build their engine from scratch, and Epic used the UE3 engine which also took lots of time to make. If you include UE3 engine development in Gears's development time, KZ2 and Gears 2 were developed for a roughly equal time.

You're kidding right?  We don't include the development of engines in timeframes for any others such as Bioware or Square Enix.  Besides, Epic has three teams.  One works on the Unreal Engine, one works on Unreal Tournament, and one works on Gears of War.

That's a big "if" my friend.

Which means we can cut some time off the Killzone 2 development time, right? And even so, there weren't development tools released for the PS3 until the beginning of 2006, and furthermore, Killzone: Liberation wasn't released until october 2006.

Killzone 2 has not had a development cycle of 4 years, it is simply impossible that they have been working full force on it since before the infamous CGI trailer was released at E3 '05.

Hooray for comparing a third person shooter to a first person shooter!
