Forums - PC - PC Puzzle Quest: Galactrix is proof PC gaming is worse than console gaming

I'd give it up richardhutnik, you're not really making any sense, let alone a valid point. For what it's worth your consumer rights are exactly the same whatever platform's games you've bought. The various DirectX API's and the like do an excellent job of abstracting what a game's doing from the rest of the operating system so the PC is far from 'unstable'. Along with many others, I can't recall a PC game giving me a problem for years now.

The PC allows people to go internally and add and remove parts, and have a platform that allows customizability, at the lack of predictability.  It is a harder target to code towards.  Perhaps strides have been made towards addressing this, but I did list a bunch of reasons for why there are issues involved, and why PC gaming is more of a headache than console gaming.  EVEN if you get the game to work, you still face other issues.

The PC developers must be doing a hellofa better job than the console gamers then because recently I've been having more headaches on consoles than I have been on the PC, even given the "lack of predictability" and the console's static hardware. I also would love to hear what those "other issues" are.

Other issues:
1. Viruses.
2. System running suboptimally due to a bunch of installed other software in the background.
3. Needing to install software before playing (PS3 becomes like a PC in regards to this).
4. Defective video cards that show up MONTHS later (I had this with a card on a tower PC I had). Unlike the RROD issue with the 360, you don't get help for the issues.

Console gaming gets picked over PC gaming for similar reasons why people go for Mac over PC. The belief is that it is easy to get into and play.

An anti-PC poster? I didn't even know such a thing existed.

Quickly everyone, we must examine his posts thoroughly as we may never get another such opportunity to study this rare almost mythical creature.

Jokes aside, I don't think I could survive with just console gaming.  PC gaming is pretty much my favorite kind.  More power to you if you like something else (YMMV) but it seems silly to me to compare it to anything else as it easily wins.

1 I haven't had a virus in ten years.
2 Turn off unnecessary software via MSConfig.
3 Installs take ten- twenty minutes, just enough time to make a cup of tea and read the manual.
4 If your hardware is defective, replace it under the warranty.

I play on both console and PC. I like the PC as it's cheaper, more flexible, has more variety and looks better. I like console gaming for its social aspects, easy to pick up games and for the sports and platform games that the PC doesn't do so well. As I said earlier, the two are complementary, not mutually exclusive. Why restrict yourself to just one type based on some inconsequential issues which are easily overcome?

Other issues with consoles like the XBox:

1. Noise pollution.
2. Blocked currency.
3. Oversimplified games.
4. Overpriced HDDs, WLAN adapter.
5. Scratched DVDs.
6. Bricking due to dashboard updates.

PC games are an entry point for people to break into the electronic entertainment industry.  It is essential part of the ecosystem.  It won't go away, because too many people have PCs.

As for myself, I am a person who grew tired of the whole upgrade and deal with the PC gaming headaches.  There are others out there, an increasing number of people actually.  I also witnessed the types of games available on PCs declined.  Console gaming was just easier.  In the case of most people, they normally don't read forums like this and post, so they aren't heard off.  It is very likely the end of my PC gaming days came when I could no longer return games that didn't work, to Electronic Boutique (after Gamestop took them over).

The XBox is causing problems in the ForEx markets?

Eh... there's a lot to be said for patience.

For example, take Fable (the lost chapters).  Totally mediocre game.  I hated aging.  I hated scarring.  I hated quite a few parts of it in fact.  Were it on a console, I would have to deal with it.  However, it's on a PC.  Pop open the files for it, remove a few less pleasant ones and poof... no more aging, no more scarring, and I added a few fun things too.

How about Jade Empire (<3 Bioware).  The PC version gets extra styles the Xbox version didn't.  Even better, a mod I have for it gives 4 more styles that were in the game but never designated for player-use.  For the finale, I decided I wanted to play with an NPC model.  I hacked the files myself and changed my character to one of the NPCs.

Oh and I just made a new thread about a total conversion mod of Diablo II that totally redoes every character and most enemies.

PC games give me the freedom to do whatever I want with them.  It's absolutely wonderful.

richardhutnik - I think its more a user issue and maybe you just arent ready for PC gaming.

I have Galactic Civilizations 2 installed on my laptop, along with Civ 4.  I had come out of PC gaming for years.  I used to do the entire upgrade my PC to play the latest games when I worked at IBM.  I have many boxes of games, including a shelf of them above a desk in the office here full of a bunch of games, including Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic, and Starships Unlimited.

The point here is that these are GAMES.  They are meant to entertain.  Your comment: "you just aren't ready for PC gaming", shows also what I am talking about.  Gaming isn't something one should be "ready" for.  I am paying money to be entertained, so I would expect things to deliver without headaches.  My issue is that I don't want to pay money and get headaches.  That is the issue.  If I have to put up with headaches, I want someone to pay me to do it.  Not me pay them money.
