Why would you want Sony to pretty much abandon a platform even if the software sales are doing very poorly? It would be a slap in the face to the people who've bought a PSP, and come back to bite Sony with their next generation handheld.

Because BigBig are a PSP developer, and we don't know who is making LBP PSP, though it is not just MM. Sony can't abandon the PSP?  Why not?  Its not making them money and the software isn't keeping anyone around.(clearly there last game to chart was LAST YEAR.) 

So now youv got another system in dire need OF support now being having less time on the market  VS handheld thats not selling software and people are buying it for other uses than gaming.

They can't turn around now on the PS3 it needs a steady flow of software.  Not go backwards to the system that clearly being dead in the water for a while.

'Dead in the water' systems never come close to selling 50 million, never mind getting all these big Japanese and (now) Western announcements.

They have plenty of software coming for the PS3, and the PSP is profitable, it is the PS3 that is causing the loss.

The PS3 has tons of support. It is lacking a few RPGs and that is it. Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank, inFamous, Killzone 2, WKC and Final Fantasy XIII (Japan) all games 100% guaranteed for 2009, + Gran Turismo 5, God of War 3, Heavy Rain and MAG all posibilities for 2009, I wouldn't call that bad support at all

The PSP now has Disidea Final Fantasy, Resistance Retribution, Locoroco and Patapon 2s (depending on location), MotorStorm PSP, LBP PSP, AC PSP, not bad either! And of course hopefully KH BBS for Japan at least, possibly KZ Lib 2 and probably something from High Impact Entertainment

These recent announcements have given the PSP 2 must have extra games for me, and I am grateful for that, I already have enough PS3 games coming this christmas to keep me busy

Good question. I suspect they'll release it simultaneously with GT5.  Otherwise, it's vapourware.

Consoles owned: Game Cube, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, PSP, PS1, PS2, PS3.

My prediction: NATAL WILL NOT help 360 sales. Maybe a 50-100k boost week 1, then a 30-70 k boost week 2, and back to the norm again after 3-5 weeks.

The psp is a handheld.

 

Handheld or not is not an excuse if the game is gimped (and not saying it IS gimped, just making the point), you can make a console experience on the PSP, or better yet make the game built around the limitations and catered to the user playing games on the go...

I also agree with the last part. It's important that it's easy to pick up and play for short periods, so assassins creed for instance, should be able to save and load whereever you are, instead of having to start the missions over. For instance.

They had the biggest selling game in freaking japan last year.  Monster hunter ? remember that ? The game still charting on the japanese charts Despite being a year old or so ?

 

Just because you don't have a psp doesn't mean that sony should instantly drop focus of all their other platforms and just develop things catered to you.

That would certainly not only piss people off, but limit their potential user base to.. well a lot less than what it is now.

Another note is that psp games are cheap to develop in comparison with ps3 games.
