Oblivion is easy to get into. Everyone must try that game if they haven't already.

get chrono trigger nooooow. I dont care if you pirate it or buy it, or whatever. You must know the glory which is chrono trigger, lord of all rpg's ever concieved
Blast from the past :
I don't care for
Star Ocean
Final Fantasy Series (Except the SNES ones)
So I've been in a similar boat as you. The game that got me into RPGs was a game called Lunar: Silver Star Story for Playstation 1. You can probably find it in a used games bin somewhere or even an emulator for it online.
Definitely worth a play through.
Another tip for ANY RPG. Is you have to play several hours into it usually. Generally RPG's aren't going to grab you within a short period of time. It's kind of pushing through it a bit to get more and more of the story. Which will start to intrigue you more and more.
For JRPGs try Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Skies of Arcadia or Grandia.
For WRPGs try Fallout 1 & 2, Planescape: Torment and Elder Scrolls 3 & 4.
I hope you enjoy some of them. Personally, I can understand disliking JRPGs, it's one of my least favorite genres.
I could go on forever... but for PC get the entire Baldurs Gate Series (Bhaalspawn saga) these are single handedly is THE best PC rpgs ever imo
.
Suikoden series. Final Fantasy series. Fallout series. Chrono trigger/cross. Elder scrolls. Lost Oddesey. I really need to stop ...

Why did you recommend those JRPGs if they are one of your least favorite genres? Not saying they aren't good though. CT and Earthbound are great. Never played SoA or Grandia though heard good things about them.
Try...Persona 4, Chrono Trigger(get for DS), Earthbound(might need to have with an SNES or an SNES emulator), Mother 3(provided you are willing to download a GBA emulator and fan translation patch) for your JRPG fix and Fallout 3 and Fable II for your WRPG fix. Mass Effect(I would prefer PC version though) could be a good choice as well.
I'm not encouraging ROMs or anything, just saying.
in terms of jrpgs, i really loved lost oddysey for the 360 and the star ocean remakes for the psp. as for wrpgs, i think fallout, mass effect, and fable 2 are the way to go.
Mass effect!! The Best RPG ever and i like you do not get very into RPG's. But i didnt have a hard time getting used to Mass effect
Long Live SHIO!
@Riachu
Just because I prefer many other genres doesn't mean that I never liked any JRPGs. Additionally, I think that JRPGs as a whole are becoming stale and unimaginative.
