@Khuutra - I already presented by stance towards google being used in this argument. It is completely moot. Gears came out two months ago. Wait till God of War comes out and re-test the theory.

Type GOW into wikipedia. The first thing you see is a 1939 novel called Grapes of Wrath. Second is GOW. The third is Gears. Also, type in MK in google...the first that has to do with games is Mortal Kombat. Also, I was not referring to you when I said that the reason for this discussion is 360 fans.

@Onyxmeth - nice tag. Why do you have to come into a perfectly decent argument and stomp all over? I was actually quite enjoying this disscussion, but will not return to this thread because I don't need the hate. Peace and love to you all, use the damn acronym for whatever you want...

Gears, a shooter - which is the reason people like me prefer it, sells much better than God of War...YAY.

Type "GOW" into google. Not only is the first result the official Gears of War page, every single video game-related result on the first page is for Gears of War.

And as already pointed out: type GoW into Wikipedia and you get Grapes of Wrath, then God of War, then Gears of War.

Here, I'll save you the trouble.

"GOW may refer to:

  • Grapes of Wrath, a classic novel published in 1939 and written by John Steinbeck
  • God of War (video game), an action-adventure game for the PlayStation 2 loosely based on Greek mythology
  • Gears of War, a third-person shooter video game developed by Epic Games for the Xbox 360"

assumption is the mother of all f**k ups

GeOW
and
GoW

Its been like that ever since GoW was released, Like it or not sales wont change it x]

I don't know why to change it though, if you check sites as neogaf, ign, gamespot, gametrailers the most use Gow for god of war. Why change it now? It would only make it confusing.

By the way if Gears of war becomes GoW what will be the shorten version of God of war then?   GooW???

No. God of War was there first. GeOW is the inferior franchise (although still great) and not deserving of the "GOW" acronym.

5. This a joke thread.

Don't ruin it!

Besides, Squilliam may be joking (I don't remember the last time he made a serious post), but this has become a massive argument now.

You know what you should do, Squilliam? Make a thread like this, but pro-Sony. Your lulz-siding has led many to think that you are a 360 fanboy, and they'll all run around in circles. It'll be funny!

GOW + Gears for me.

This is just another term that will have to be understood through context.

You people are so stupid, nobody calls Gears of war GeOW or GOW. Only Gears 1 or 2
