FFVII is NOT poorly paced.  I don't think there is a mainline FF that is poorly paced.  If any of them were, then they wouldn't get the excellent reviews they have been getting over the years.

Final Fantasy 7 is well-paced up to the moment you are required to do the Honey Bee side-quests to get into Don Corneo's mansion.  That's the first point where the game loses a lot of its momentum.  It continues well again even through the Sephiroth scene in the next town to faulter at Junon and the boat trip.

Don't believe me?  Go replay the game and see what I mean.

I never played FFVII but I'll ask my brother or one of his friends since they have played it.

I wouldn't really go down this path with him. Raichu has a bad habit of using other people's opinions as facts to fuel arguments against things he really has no place to talk about. Not offense of course. It's just that sometimes he feels like a VGC version of Vegh Esther.

I should have paid more attention to your post.

Rofl!

I'm sorry, that was just hilarious...

As for in game battles, I think Chrono Trigger is a better example. We all knew this game was turn based, as opposed to an ARPG like Secret of Mana. That game (SoM) is awesome btw, even more so if you have 2 other friends interested - did 3 player co-op back when it came out, that was too good. Since I was the youngest I always got stuck with that mutt and weak weapons though

OT: I'm with arsenal009 on the battle system, it's nothing like Grandia, was sorta hopin it to be closer. The music seems good (it is Mitsuda), though not a fan of some the char models. Yeah, that includes the pink haired chick!

Thanks for posting Soriku, the game looks great.

Weird thread. ARF is looking better but I had decided I'd be getting it a while ago. I like JRPGs and there are too few for the Wii right now to miss supporting this one.

Tales stories are mediocre, not awful. They're full of cliches and they won't be winning any awards in my book but they're fairly entertaining once you lower your expectations a bit.

Code Geass is a good anime with a solid plot and very nice animation. I don't like Ledouche though. He makes too many mistakes to be as cocky as he is IMO.

Thank you! We needed these words of wisdom. Tales game are far too overrated on this forum.

I like Tales games, but they are still a B-rate series.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Check out MyAnimeList and my Game Collection. Owner of the 5 millionth post.

One of my most anticipated games this year. It's going to be great.

Too many people in this thread are talking about stories of JRPGs which they haven't played themselves. What's up with that and who forgot to watch over Riot Of The Blood?

Ehm, well....

Hatemail this way I guess (not that I have shortage, lol). Fanmail is also very much welcome. Once every while a nice perma-comeback is good for the overall atmosphere on VGC.

B? not at all.

Yes, the story isn't FF "-" (insert any FF beside IX/VIII/XII), but they are an absolutely great JRPG series. "A" Grade.

You know that without playing the game, nor any Tales game before?

Tales stories are good. And this game's story will be good too.

That is what I heard of other people concerning the stories in the series.  If you are so sure that the stories in Tales are good, then you should play other JRPGs.  I can garentee you that there are atleast a few JRPG stories you would like more than

anything in Tales.

OR read a book. I have played almost every RPG of any acclaim to come out in the last 20 years, and I have yet to come across a story that is as memorable or well-crafted as any of my favorite books'.

Tales games overall have pretty good stories. Don't expect anything profoundly original, but they're not bad. They're at least self-contained, are not overly self-important, and usually resolve quite neatly which is more than I can say for many other games.

But yeah, I eat up generic RPG plots like popcorn; So long as it's good enough to keep me intrigued and promote good character arcs I'm happy. And I'm looking forward to this game quite a bit either way.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Hmm...seems like a decently long game. I like to collect stuff in games so it should last me.

I also need to get Paper Mario, SMRPG, and the BoF games from VC...

For an RPG fan u haven't played too many RPGs have u?

RPG series/stand alone games I've played:

Kingdom Hearts
Paper Mario
Final Fantasy series
Tales series
Star Ocean series
Baten Kaitos series
The World Ends With You
Pokemon series
Valkyrie Profile series
Skies of Arcadia Legends

Series I plan to get into:

Mario and Luigi
Suikoden
Persona/SMT
Fire Emblem

...And some others, including most of the Wii JRPGs.

So...uh...yes I have.

@Riot

Not Tales of Ten? Assuming it comes over this year...

I thought you said Wii games can't be as good as HD games? ;)

You will also play Mana, SaGa, Shining, Golden Sun, Lufia, Dragon Quest, Soul Blazer, 7th Saga, Wild Arms, Breath of Fire, and anything else I decide that I haven't mentioned yet.

This is not a request.

I agree with everything you said, especially the bolded part. The biggest turn off for me when I'm trying to get into a jRPG is when it attempts to be overly serious, dramatic, and self-important, and then falls on its face.

The only ones I'm unsure about playing is Soul Blazer. I forgot Wild Arms too, but that's when I actually can get money and have time for those games too X_X Same with Lufia and 7th Saga (what is 7th Saga?). The rest I wanna play.

Play SMT: Nocture first. It's one of those games that when you play it, you start to rethink whether the games you were playing before were as good as you once thought.

At least, that's what happened with me...
