OR read a book. I have played almost every RPG of any acclaim to come out in the last 20 years, and I have yet to come across a story that is as memorable or well-crafted as any of my favorite books'. Tales games overall have pretty good stories. Don't expect anything profoundly original, but they're not bad. They're at least self-contained, are not overly self-important, and usually resolve quite neatly which is more than I can say for many other games. But yeah, I eat up generic RPG plots like popcorn; So long as it's good enough to keep me intrigued and promote good character arcs I'm happy. And I'm looking forward to this game quite a bit either way. |
I agree with everything you said, especially the bolded part. The biggest turn off for me when I'm trying to get into a jRPG is when it attempts to be overly serious, dramatic, and self-important, and then falls on its face.
