Forums - Gaming - Proof that "metacritic" is a farce if you go off aggregated scores

hello.

its been flying around for a while now.

game A is 92 hence it is AAA

and game B is 88 and is not AAA

i call BS on the way metacritic works and is completly unfair to use it as a judgment on whats the better game or what isnt.

in my view an AAA game is..........#1 a game thats recived well by reviews, #2 has acclaimed sales, and more importantly is enjoyed by the gamers who have purchased the game.

the bolded is far more important to what makes an AAA title out of the 3 catagories ive listed as its the only catagory that you can actually play.

ive just come across this below. on PC metacritic

Out of the Park Baseball 2007

96

and...........................

Left 4 Dead

89

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

now going of scores one would say out of the park baseball is a better game than L4D simply because metacritic says so as its something you would call AAA, or is it?

are you a gamer who agrees with flawed aggregated scores, or do you just enjoy games for what they bring to you personally as a gamer?

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

reviews in general are quite bs.
thats why I hate when people use metacritic to state facts.

hell, the good thing is you don't actually have to listen to them

Well metracritic and gamerankings are mostly based on american reviews anyways. Read some reviews of European magazines and you'll see that europeans have a different gaming taste and european reviewers often rate games a lot different.

i would like to add, when phantasy star universe came out on 360. me and friends clocked in nearly 900 hours online a solid 3 and half months play i spent on that game.

psu didnt sell well, niether was it recieved well by reviews, and its aggregating at 65 i think

but the fact is i liked the game and thats all that matters.

you cant play reviews, you cant play sales, but one thing for certain is that you can play is the games. if you get enjoyment out of playing a particular game even though reviews say otherwise, its best not to listen to them.

yea well theres a reason two websites/magazines have addressed this issue recently. Edge and some other site

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Want to see the real difference? Just compare 360, PS3 and Wii reviews. See how much green there is for each systems reviews.

You could have picked a way better game then L4D to prove your point... but overall i agree with you

Yeah, well.... L4D is a 90 now, if that makes any difference.

I'll still use metacritic anyway, their layout is awesome compared to the shitfest that is ramerankings.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Army of Two is only 72 on metacritics, but I like it so much. Dead Space is 89, but for me is AAA for sure. Different people - different views.
I'm starting to think that giantbomb.com are the best for my taste. They scored games much more close to mine point of view then others.
