I think letting the reviews out so early was a big mistake, Marcus from Gametrailers (irish guy on invisible walls) said it best when: (paraphrase)
"what's the point of hyping a game when you let the reviews out 3 weeks before hand, just for the game to disappear off the gamerankings most popular list before it launches".

I think the viral marketing will help, but with Lost and Damned storming in this last week and a bit, and with all the hype geared towards god of war and uncharted 2, I'd say that Sony's hype started prematurely.

How will it effect sales? well I'm still picking up a copy, but I'm not as excited as I was a week ago.

Yes, Wii owners never hype the games they're excited for because they love to adhere to rules (they never troll or flame either btw), this should be clearly evident in the lack of hype for SSBB for instance, there were virtually no threads about that game...

its not really so much "the calm before the storm" its more like the calm eye of a shitstorm! That being said. My friends and I are so excited for KZ2 we cant even talk about it. When we do we get sad lol

I don't think the KZ2 hype is dead, though for a while there I almost got a headache from the page slowdown, which was caused by all the KZ2 gifs.

And yes SSBB had bigger hype on this site then KZ2, but then again SSBB almost killed every gaming site on the net. The posts on the first Brawl thread went to 10k really fast and caused massive bandwidth problems, which was then locked down. But all in all a good 90% of brawl related posts were in that thread so I'd say the users kept to "teh rulez" a bit better :P

The pre-mature hype of K2 was winding down slowly, but still strong, when GOD OF WAR III Stormed in With His Awesome Trailer!!!! RAARRR

Killzone 2 will rise up on launch week like the Helgans rising up to repell the ISA invasion. Killzone 2 is a beast, regardless of whatever internet hype is bouncing around.
