Resident Evil 5 first review...

not nearly as good as
we hoped - 81%

I think the 5th opus gonna live in the shadow of RE4... I got this feeling

What they're expressing in their review is exactly what I was afraid of when they started talking about co-op back at E3...

Coop is just not implemented well in almost all games. Army of Two did better then most, but even then, it seems like it would have been better with 1 person a lot of the time.

The only really good coop shooter I've played is Left 4 Dead (as long as the other people on your team aren't tards). You really feel like you need each other (and not for stupid artificial reasons like both needing to push the switch at the same time) and it works great. RE5 strikes me as just another generic action game that I can't get too excited about at all. I think I'd rather just go play L4D some more instead of picking up this game.

This isn't the first review...OPM gave it 5/5...

Speak for yourself, I hope the Japanese reviewers especially tear it to shreds, give it such bad reviews that Capcom take note

Is this co-op online or co-op split screen or co-op online and co-op split screen?

If there is online co-op then it could be far from a disaster. If on the other hand the only way the game can be enjoyed is playing co-op and it can only be done split screen then this is the dumbest decision ever because how often would you have someone next to you to play with as compared to simply going online and finding someone to play with.

Even if it has online though I still think this is a dumb idea. From what I hear of Left 4 Dead co-op this can never come anywhere close and on top of that playing with someone else just takes away all the fear and atmosphere of the Resident Evil series.

there is both co-op online and splitscreen. I didn't really care how the splitscreen played though it cut off a portion of the screen.

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

Good to see the name or hype has not sucked reviewers up it's ass, shit happens when you make the greatest survival horror franchise into a co-op shooter.

Playstation official magazine gave it 100/100 like 2 weeks ago..
81 is pretty much what I expected...

There's a reason for that.

Co-op modes are usually made as bonus modes, and that they often take place in the missions/areas that are meant to be cleared solo, only with more (and possibly tougher) enemies. In order to get the most out of co-op modes you'd have to design at least a single campaign around it, so that the designers can plan the stages, events, mechanics etc. accordingly. Left 4 Dead is built completely around co-op play, and that's why it apparently does it so well - and that's also why it has no worthwhile single player mode.
