Not to fear, as demonstrated, the "Killzowned" engine can do far more than just a pretty face :) |
Yeah, it can give you the view from the hip, where everything looks taller and you seem like a midget. It has a 130ms delay.
OT: I really do not expect KZ2 to move many consoles. Still no ads on live TV broadcasts and the game appears in 11 days. People kept saying, "Oh why advertise weeks in advance?" well it is no longer "weeks" in advance, and still nothing. This game will sell well to the original PS3 owners, but will not usher in a large number of new consoles.
Now, as far as the engine goes, it is likely to be very expensive, and since it is untested (only used with one game that had a long development cycle), I still think developers will find other alternatives rather than risk the cost/troubles with the new engine. The ONLY developers I even see considering this engine are the Sony owned 1st party studios, which already would be making PS3 exclusives in the first place... so no, this engine will not be ushering in any more exclusives than already planned.
How can you say the PS3 is an older crowd when Microsoft has stated that their main userbase resides in the 18-32 year old section. Games are not "gimped" when they are multiplat. They are made as good as possible for both consoles using a compatible engine. As far as graphics, Killzone 2 is the only game I have seen to date that actually could be difficult to match on the 360. But then again, Cliffy B. already told us they can squeeze even more out of the 360 for Gears of War 3, so I guess we'll see. Mature gamers are also cost conscientious.. unless you want me to believe that all older gamers simply buy the most expensive because they can afford it, even when that still isn't the case given the sales numbers. The older the gamer, the (hopefully) more mature and money smart they are likely to be. Sony is the one hurting the industry right now by adding high developer costs and complicated hardware (which drove at least 2 companies out of business). They are trying to usher in this mindset that expensive is best, and having everything (including what you don't need) is best. Luckily most gamers are smart enough to still see otherwise and choose what best fits their needs and costs.
