Resident Evil 5; 8/10 from PlayStation Official Mag UK

Subscribers to PlayStation Official Magazine UK were treated today to an exclusive review of Resident Evil 5. The verdict? 8 out of 10.

As you would expect, they pick up on the fact that RE5 is all about ‘panicked crisis management’ - balancing your inventory with your immediate requirements as hordes of zombie types try to end your life in unique and interesting ways.

What does come through in the review is how good Sheva’s AI is, but these points are balanced out by the painful inventory management and the poor cover system that ‘all but kills the fun’.

So what is their conclusion?

In many ways, their review is similar to those we read on Call of Duty: World at War. That well-trodden phrase ‘which is no bad thing’ springs to mind.

You see, CoD:WaW is like CoD4, ‘which is no bad thing’.

RE5 is near identical to RE4, ‘which is no bad thing’.

We reckon that even with its flaws, Resident Evil 5 is still an essential buy for your PS3 library, and in the final paragraph, it would seem that the good people at PlayStation Official Magazine UK agree.

I feel this is definetely an UNDERWHELMING score for the sequel of the "so called best game of last-gen"

Yes, when it's from SDF themselves, that's bad.

And I do know its OPM not SDF, but they have a lot in common (overrating games etc)

8/10 is an A isn't it? That sounds really good to me.

since when does bad = underwhelming colonelstubbs.

 From what I heard the difference here is that OPM isn't owned by XBox fans while SDF is.

Well, they had RE4 to follow up to, which is a big task to begin with.

Second of all, they played it safe. Capcom did not want to become a victime of the HD-expenses, where they "pay big money to make a good game but nobody would buy it so they lose big time." So to avoid that situation, they simply copy and paste RE4 with better graphics. Sure, they added a cover system, a co-op system as well...but I guess the reviewers weren't wowed by it as much as they were wowed by RE4.

But, like they said, it still a good game to buy so if you liked the demo you might as well still buy it. Of course, I'm not (don't like horror games with complicated shooting controls...bought RE4 Wii for my bro and he doesn't seem willing to buy an HD RE right now....).

Worst score I have seen yet for ths game.

I thumbed through a German magazine today and it got a 9.3 (the same score as Killzone 2 btw)
