Well, they had RE4 to follow up to, which is a big task to begin with.

Second of all, they played it safe. Capcom did not want to become a victime of the HD-expenses, where they "pay big money to make a good game but nobody would buy it so they lose big time." So to avoid that situation, they simply copy and paste RE4 with better graphics. Sure, they added a cover system, a co-op system as well...but I guess the reviewers weren't wowed by it as much as they were wowed by RE4.

But, like they said, it still a good game to buy so if you liked the demo you might as well still buy it. Of course, I'm not (don't like horror games with complicated shooting controls...bought RE4 Wii for my bro and he doesn't seem willing to buy an HD RE right now....).
