Forums - Sales - wii's 3rd party lack of success...could it be an isse on the long run?

Game_boy said:
"Most popular"? Well it's not sales figures, because most of them haven't been released. As for sales figures, just look at this week's VGChartz software charts. In Japan, for instance, Nintendo has sold more than five times as many units as any other software company. The charts are full of Nintendo-developed DS and Wii games.

So, do you want to point out, third party has a problem on Nintendo systems, caused by a very good first party support?

lack of success? more like lack of offerings.

even from nintendo themselves... lack of wii offerings.

wait a few months, and then this becomes a more legitimate question.

ok, but why devs are not supporting it like PS3? Wii will have 3X the user base by the end of the year but still devs are looking to PS3...how do you explain this?

Because what devs devop and announced til know, was decided before everybody knew how successful the Wii is. And devs don't decide that much on their own. The publisher do decide in most cases what will be developed, and those need time for change.

And to add to that, if it takes 2 year and 20 million to develope a game for PS3, next years titles have been started in 2006. Lets say that average PS3 title is started june 2006, it costs 20 million and takes 2 years to develope. Everybody was expecting PS3 to sell better by default and focused on PS3. It was just after christmas, when there was starting to be some indication, that PS3 really doesn't sell. And at that point, to average PS3 title, developers had invested more than 5 million, so they were not just going to throw away that money and jump on the Wii. They need to finish the projects before they get refund and start new projects.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

I'm seriously thinking of writing up a form letter response to these threads. I've only been on this board a few weeks and I'm getting sick of them.

ok, i care for your health: just do yourself a favour and don't enter this kind of thread...you'll feel better :P

You can't just choose a week where a big title for the PS2 and Xbox360 is released, 890,000 were sold of Madden on XBox360 which is good for EA but it makes the other 208,000 games on Xbox360 sold that week covering all other games look pretty poor for other developers.

Just as you can't get a clear picture in a week where a big title for the Wii is released or even the previous week.

Software totals 11th August 2007:

DS: 545,012

Wii: 459,215

Xbox360: 311,244

PS2: 307,857

Oh look Wii is ahead in software sales despite having a smaller userbase than the  Xbox360 and PS2!

One week analysis just does not work.

Mmm... That was pointless....

Last week numbers don't count as a rule mate, a big game was release and it sold really well on the XBOX360 and PS2...

Take the last month to get a better picture...

Another place to look is the annual sales.  Too bad there is no total software for other.  Trying to remain unbiased.

In JPN and NA Wii has sold 20,616,256 units of software, 360 has sold 17,059,302.

Take out Wii Sports (JPN and NA about 4.5 million this year): 16,200,000 est.

Take out all Nintendo published software (estimating 12.5 million in Wii software for Nintendo in '07.) leaves you about 8 million in third party software so far (this year), this may not sound like much but if you consider the crap third parties are pumping out...

For 360  take out all MS software and that leaves you with more than the 8 million from Wii 3rd Parties: about 13 million.

If you add in OTHER that it probably closes the gap on the total software, and widens the 3rd party gap.

Not bad for just catching up on hardware this week.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Well I think Steven787 said it all...I think he can speak for us all.

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

Yeah Steven did make and excellent post. BTW I like your signature Steven. What did Leo-J say when he saw it?

Why are you removing Wii Sports in JP???
