Forums - Sony - who here thinks that KillZone2 controls are the best?

Kantor said:
Hell, yeah. I thought they were awesome.

I use Standard 1 with Zoom Toggle. If you haven't tried it yet, try it. It's way better than Alternate 2, because it's what the game has been designed around.

@NNN: Yes, I have played Halo 3. The controls sucked. Okay, that's harsh. But there were no iron sights of any kind, or any zoom mode other than on the rifles. CoD4's controls were infinitely better.

I like you Kantor. And your opinion is good, so I'm not saying your opinion is rubbish. Mine just differs. Personally Halo 3 was miles better than COD 4. In fact COD 4 is overated for me. Terrible spawning enemies in Singleplayer veteran makes not a war feeling but a bad game engine.

Control wise Bungie have perfected it for me, not only is the FPS stuff spot on. But no other FPS does vehicle controls like Bungie. Hopping from warthog to foot, and back to warthog is seamless. I think it's the best all round controls Ive used.

I don't think the controls are the best but they're just fine. But I agree with you about the aiming and getting headshots

Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed Halo 3. It's a very good game. My opinion on Halo 3 is similar to yours on Killzone 2: very good, a tad overhyped. The controls weren't bad as such, but the 30 foot jump was a little gamebreaking, the melee was way overpowered, and why the hell aren't there any iron sights?

Halo 1 ranks as my favourite standard FPS of all time, Halo 2 right behind it. Bungie just messed up a little with Halo 3. They made the campaign way shorter, added no new weapons other than the Spartan Laser and Gravity Hammer, both of which are too crap to use anyway, and put in an unnecessary powerup system.

Then, CoD4 came along. It felt fresh. The controls were the best I had ever seen in a console FPS. The online was fantastic (I've never played Halo online, though, so I can't compare). The campaign was a little short, but it was quality, even if the story was a little all over the place. The controls felt more polished, and yes, there were iron sights. Last Stand was also a great addition.

Killzone 2 is similar. The control scheme is not identical, but it does take some of the better points from the CoD4 controls. L3 to sprint is great, much better than X (I'm looking at you, RE5). R1 to fire was always standard, although some developers (unsuccessfully) tried R2. I believe jump in CoD4 was the same as Halo/KZ. Cooking grenades is there (unlike Halo), and I prefer the way the grenade arc appears as a yellow line. Triangle works for switching weapons, I think that's what it was in Halo as well.

Basically, all three control schemes are similar, although CoD4 and KZ2 more so than CoD4 and Halo 3 or KZ2 and Halo 3. I don't understand the complaints about "dead zone", I never noticed anything like that, even with the amount I've played CoD4. Never noticed any command lag either, like I said in another thread, BioShock's was much worse. As long as you're not too used to another shooter, you'll pick up the controls on your first playthrough. For some people, it would take three or so.

My advice to you, Selnor, next time you get to play, put it on Standard 1, Zoom Toggle, Full sensitivity, and just give it a few playthroughs. Get the feel of it, and you'll be headshotting Helghast like you headshot Grunts.

Yeah definately give a try with those settings. I should be online with my own brand new PS3 and KZ2 Mid April so will have to play online to. :)

I agree with Selnor, COD4 is overrated in my opinion. Floaty + Slow? Sorry i'll pass on the online.

One thing I disagree with him on though is Halo 3. That game wasn't much better either. If you want a "floating gun" shooter you can't play it slow in my opinion, you need it to be fast, you need Unreal Tournament BABY!! (Yeah, that is my "BABY" quote") Slow + Twitchy = Nono. Slow + Tactical = Makes sense. Fast + Twitchy = Makes sense.

Killzone 2 is alright when it moves slow because at least I can understand why. The "heavy" feel is what makes it stand out for me. So while I am preferably a highspeed, intense, no holds barred, all out mayhem shooter fan I can honestly say Killzone 2 controls are almost perfect for me. No need for fast aiming and "twitchy" styled gameplay and controls when the game is more tactical, this isn't a run and gun game. It is nice to not have someone holding my hand when I play and more importantly, nobody to hold your hand when you aim. At least this time it will be easier to separate the men from the boys.

No HUD
No Subtitles
No Crosshair

Do that and Killzone 2 = Awesome.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Kantor - I am able to sprint in R5 with L3 using the default controls.  At least I think I am.

Selnor - Can't wait for you to join the club.  Please make sure you are one of the "good" multi-console owners.  Some people use it as a license to troll.  Please join the VGC league, and sorry in advance for all the team killing.

I like Standard 2 w/ zoom to hold off.  I like to conform, but not fully conform.  I think you guys are right about using alt 2, with zoom to hold on for the online.  The grenade cooking indicator is a nice touch.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

First of all i played the demo 20 times, its not hard to get headshots but that gif shows just how jerky the aiming is in the game. It should be a smooth line towards the head like most console FPS games but the aiming of the sticks is wrong and it jerks. He is using a flicking motion of the sticks due to them being out of wack.

No worries there. When I was younger I suppose I was a Ninty fanboy, but Companies dont matter to me, they all want my money. :)

I had over 50 PS2 games last gen and only 8 Xbox games. Yet I still gave credit to both companies when they had top games.

So PS3 games I'm looking forward to owning are:

MGS4, Uncharted, LBP, KZ2 and GOW3 mainly. But also this christmas Uncharted 2 and Heavy Rain specifically. Even though I finished Uncharted I want to own it. :)

this must be a joke topic

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

atleast Halo 3 have auto aim on it also what make killzone 2 control more difficult is the player keep shaking even while aiming.
