Forums - Nintendo - Do you still seeing the Wii as the "kiddy" console?

The wii is the main console,

1. For girls & women
2. Older people
3. For parents that buy it for their little kids, and play it also
4. Mainly children

Thats why it sells so much, and to answer to your question, yes it is a kiddy console

I got one because my girlfriend wanted one, and i thought it is great a way to play videogames with her, my mother loved it too thats why i bought one for her too

I totally agree with this one.

Not really because it has Zelda Mario among others which are class always. But in a way perhaps, your not exactly going to play smash bros and mario kart at 26 when ur mates come round for beers. Fighting games and footy games usually command the TV to get everyone in the mood for MMA or football thats on later.

Ynwa.

The Wii has 42 million sellers according to VGC. 3 of them are clearly targetted at adults only (RE4, RE UC, and Red Steel). There is 89 500K sellers and 6 are for adults! Kids are scared of zombies, and samurai,  and WW2, which is what these 6 games are all about.  Probably there are no repeat buyings, since if you have one zombie, or WW2, game, you have them all and would never want another.  Not for kids!

Obviously the Wii is the adult console of choice, and adults choose it just as it chooses them.

How many adult women (or men over 40) play FPS or Survival Horror games? The vast majority of adults have rejected the kinds of games most gamers currently see as being "For Adults" ... While I'm certain many people would disagree, Wii Fit is by far the most mature game released in this generation.

I agree.  WiiFit is also for making the Wii for adults.  Adults would never buy WiiFit so they could use their kids console for something other than Mario, and make them pretend they didn't spend so much on a just "kiddie toy".

Wow, you sound like an agry 15 year old who doesn't have any understanding of how adults think ... From my personal experience as a gamer who is rapidly approaching 30, most adults don't care nearly as much about how the world sees their hobbies as teenagers do.

I'm not 15.  I drink beer legal.

You should try it.  Helps make you mellow, and not so defensive.

Yes, I do still seeing the Wii as the "Kiddy" console.

I also think thats why its doing so well. Old people and children don't want (or aren't allowed in the case of children) to play violent games.

Mario and Zelda aren't for kids only, anyone can play them, but they certainly aren't mature games.

I never saw the Wii as a "kiddie" console, but I do think it is the one who appeals the most to people of all ages and both sexes....with that being said while the focus of many third parties has been more on the casual side I do believe that they are trying to venture out more and create games that are would appeal more to the 'core' gamer

So in short, no not a kiddie console, but one that appeals to the most number of people (from young kids all the way to the elderly)

I started making videos for youtube; check them out.

You should congratulate me. I destroyed the vile red falcon and saved the universe. I consider myself a hero.

Yeah I find the Wii to be kiddy. Almost like a Gimmick.

This "Gimmick" is on it's way to sell well over 100 million. I bet MS and Sony wish they were the "Gimmick."

agreed with what SCEA said

@narfwack

well didnt Sony hit 100 million twice ??????

the first company to sell 100 million consoles, and to make it better they did it on their "first" console

i guess that only leaves me with 1 question....did any other company make it to the 100 million console sold "goal" as yet ?

Look up your facts, bro. The Gameboy reached the 100 million mark prior to the PS1. And that was Nintendo first mainstream handheld.

yep handheld....not console.......i know gameboy+gb colour sold 118 million

first "console" to reach 100 million
