Even if it's daylight, has it got any African mystery voodoo feel and atmosphere?
And is there any background music with voodoo-drums and stuff?

You had shooters where you could move while shooting last generation, no one called RE 4 outdated back then, it was called a different approach, just like RE 5 still uses this same, different approach. I agree, RE 4 and 5 aren't horror, but the survival is still there. Don't you feel hunted while playing the demo, especially when you're out of ammo?

No, I feel annoyed. Oh noes, not slow lumbering zombies, one of whom moves at amount a mile a day, wears a bag over his head and drags an axe on the floor!
Left 4 Dead spoils you...
l4d was crazy, the zombies ran faster than you did

Urgh, where to begin.
RE4 was outdoors, in daylight, up until the cabin when Leon passes out, then wakes up at night. It has many indoors areas that were well lit also, like inside much of the castle.
You can't comment on RE5 being scary or not, because you have played 2 small areas and nothing else. Before RE4 was released all they showed was the village, in the daytime.
Just an example from the later parts of RE5:
Where is the shooter? Where is the daylight? He is walking in the dark and can't even use his gun.
Now to your last comment "It amuses me, KylieDog, that you can complain about KZ2's controls and yet see nothing wrong with those in RE5, which frankly were horrible. Why do I have to hold down L1 to reload? Why is X the sprint button? Why am I using an aiming laser in broad daylight?"
What you describe is a button configuration, the problem with KZ2 controls is nothing like that. Killzone 2 controls are bad because it has a massive dead zone, accelerated aiming, and the initial aiming speed is far too slow.
I wish KZ2 controls problem was the configration, that is easy to deal with, you just get used to it, alas, KZ2 control issues are just something that will always be a hinderance to good players. |
Excuse me? Good players? What is a good player? Somebody who is good at playing? That makes no sense.
What you meant to say is that they will be a hindrance to people good at CoD4. Absolutely, and thank God. You just need to relearn it. It's a different kind of shooter.
Now, your other complaints. A massive dead zone? Turn up the sensitivity. Accelerated aiming? It's not CoD4, remember? Initial aiming speed is far too slow? It's meant to be. That's how you fine tune your aim without auto-aim guiding you.
Back on topic, now.
Alright then, we'll say it gets scary later. Perhaps the rest is just a flaw in the Resident Evil series, I wouldn't know, this is the first one I've actually played.
The controls were atrocious. And could not be configured. You move extremely slowly. The only guy moving slower than you is the guy with the cloth bag over his head, dragging the axe. You sprint slower than most characters walk. Laser sights do not work outdoors, it is too bright to see the red dot. Sheva seems somewhat gamebreaking, she keeps giving you ammo and healing you!
Maybe it's just me, but hey, I'm entitled to my opinion, right?
To refine my statement, based on what I have seen and experienced of RE5, it is not, in my opinion, a very good game.
People bashing RE5 don't 'get' it.
Resident Evil 5 is fine.
The issue people have (which I don't get) is that the controls are very similar to Resident Evil 4 for GC/PS2. Yes, they're not run & gun, but they're not Resident Evil 2 (which, if in a modern game, would make RE5's controls feel like a godsend).
The Co-Op was very nice. My fiancee were yelling out commands to eachother while fighting off the zombie horde in the public assembly. It was a lot of fun.
Add back in the fact we'll be able to upgrade our weapons ala RE4, and it's sold me pretty easy.
Should it adopt run & gun like Dead Space did? Yes, I think it needs a more Western control scheme, but for now, it's OK.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
For me... yes. It looks nice, of course they're free to stick with the controls they want, but I have zero interest in a game where someone with zombies closing in on them can't move while holding a light pistol - and just as with Doom 3 I have no truck with holding a flashlight making it impossible to shoot at the same time.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
If you are complaining about not being able to run and gun then you don't understand the concept of Resident Evil and you should just move on to something else.
I did not enjoy the Demo really, it really changed my purchase, I was going to get it... But I am glad I played the demo and am not going to waste 60 bucks someday.

That must be why I've never bothered playing an RE game and commented that for me the experience is aged. Funny that.
I understand it alright - using a forced mechanic to put you in jepordy. That mechanic is just not for me. I'm also not into the whole story/zombies thing either. Again, that's personal taste, I'm sure the many players enjoy the RE Universe, I'm just not one of them.
I do try the demos though, just to see if I could get into it. But everytime I get frustrated and don't even finish the demo due to controls.
