Forums - Sony - Killzone 2 aim/look speed: Realism? Or bad attempt at it?

@everyone who is saying "I'm not getting this now": Most of you weren't going to get it anyway. I know it's cool to hate KZ2, but stop. Please.

Actually I did have KZ2 on pre-order and I was planning on buying it, but after playing the KZ2 demo then playing Halo Wars I felt I would get more enjoyment out of Halo Wars as it is more my type of game and I already have loads of Shooters,

The problem is, I only have enough money to buy one of the two games, I don't have enough for them both so had to pick one, I haven't slagged KZ2 off at all and certainly don't hate it, the demo was good and it's got very good reviews too,

Good. We're cool then.

@KylieDog: Put aiming sensitivity on maximum, put zoom on hold, and use Alternate 2. You have CoD4. Pretty good aiming.

Put aiming sensitivity on maximum, put zoom on toggle, and use Standard 1. You have KZ2. Perhaps the best controls I have seen in a console FPS. Better than CoD4.

Try it. R3 is a much better zoom button than L1. And don't judge the online aspects without playing online. Remember that everyone else is playing the same game.

It's not meant to be a twitch shooter, it's meant to be tactical, like Gears of War in first person. Try not using cover, you will die. Again, and again, and again.

EDIT: Even if what you were saying is true, is that such a bad thing? I'd like to see some of the arrogant farts who topped the leaderboards in CoD4 and felt the need to go on about their binge drinking session last night in a loud voice over voice chat be at the bottom for once. I'm usually around second or third in a CoD4 match, I'll see how I fare in KZ2.

I've played the demo enough, trid various settings, the controls are just a bad design that doesn't reward players skills in reaction speed and aiming.

Great game for players who always got shot/headshotted first in other games, bad for players who were doing the quick kills/headshots.

It's clearly just you because there were plenty of headshots in the beta.

Personally i love Killzone 2's aiming and the speed is just perfect for me. I really hope it's never changed for that game, it was wonderful in the beta and it's going to be wonderful on final release.

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

I really love KZ2 gameplay, it feels much more realistic. Don't get me wrong, I love R2 and CODIV, but in those games, you don't really have to aim. In KZ2, you have to take your time and try the headshot.

I also like the way the camera moves, even if it's slow, you can feel your steps and your weight. GG made a great job, now I understand why it took so long to make this game.

BTW, my mum watched me playing the demo, and she said that the game kicks ass lol, "it looks much better than the alien game 'aka resistance 2'" !

The lack of aim assist, and zoom/auto lockon in Killzone 2 seems to really upset a couple of people. I really like those features in COD4, but Killzone is a different game and requires a different skillset. Killzone is not going to aim for you.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

I agree. It feels like what the RE series does - handicapping the player in a cheap attempt to make things more challenging. Guerilla disguises it as "realisitc weight" and people are foolish enough to believe it. Guns have weight, but what they did is too much. A soldier's heavy gear isn't placed on his arms - KZ2 gives you a sense of what it'd feel like if that was the case.

Some people seem worried that if KZ2 did pick up CoD4/5's aiming feel, it'd become braindead like them. Like I said before, that's not the reason why CoD4/5 are such easy games. Two of the big things that made them what they are is the fact that it only takes about 2 shots to drop someone combined with the lack of recoil when not using ironsights. It means you can run around shooting from the hip and score lucky kills.

What I'm curious about now is how this will affect people when the full game is out. Comfortable controls are extremely important in any game. Difficult controls discourage casual players. I let my friend try out the demo and he was quick to jump on the issue. When I read all the reviews constantly bringing up "bad controls/feel", I always assumed they meant the game had too much recoil, but that wasn't the case at all. This whole thing has been getting tons of attention, especially on other forums.

@ parasitic: so it's completely impossible for people to adapt to this kind of play and still "own" everyone around? It'll just take a tad longer to achieve, since it has a different method to it.

Like someone here said: if they didn't change it, people would complain it was the same. Now that it goes its own way, people complain it's not alike.

(and comparing people who do not think this is a bad setup to braindead people, is a cheap shot and has absolutely nothing to do with the argument)

i haven't had any problems with the controls, and i haven't changed a thing. My first few playthroughs were difficult as i was used to PC fps but now i pwn helghans

I haven't played the demo and don't know much about the controls. But from what I've been reading, I have a question for people who did play it. This is something that I've seen come up in this thread.

So from what I read, the main complaints indicate that it seems it's harder to have precision aiming which makes it harder to get a headshot. Then some people say that this would be bad as casuals would not be inclined to play the game and that's where the gross income from the game comes from. But wouldn't this actually make the game easier for casuals as people that trained a lot would have just as good precision as them? Wouldn't that be a good thing GG is doing for casual players to play online?

I'm curious to get responses from people that played this demo.

The aiming in the single player has a different feel than COD.  Once you get used to it, you can become quite accurate with the system.  I think Killzone will be a little harder than COD.
