@numonex-"Cut it off during the warm weather but not the winter"

I've had my power shut off after xmas, not for one second did I feel like I was a victim. Just trashy.

@Zen- Besides them "taking responsibility" should they not also be HELD responsible for their mistake here?

I don't think the power company is to blame. If I don't pay my car payment I don't drive. That easy. I understand that this is different from utilities, but it's the same idea. IMO there's no one to blame but God. The man was obviously "confused".

No one is to "blame" but someone certainly is negligant. If the power company wasn't in some form negligant, then why have they taken action to make sure this didn't happen again?

For a person to be reasonably negligant, something must happen that a reasonable person would have predicted.

The burden of proof is much easier to meet when it comes to a commercial monopoly than it is when it comes to individual private rights.

I think it's nice that you all are thinking for yourselves, but let's not take sides because we believe others shouldn't be any less screwed than ourselves. The system was to blame for this occourance. The power company created the system. They have changed the system since this occourance happened. WTF else is there to talk about? Is what I'm saying false? Did they not change the system because of this? Was the system perfect to begin with? If so, why did they change it?

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

In order

1. The deceased.

2. Legality issues. To protect their asses.  If it happens again theres a pattern. Everyone loves a scapegoat.

3. You can't predict "confused".  trust me I work with them.

4. Thank You.

5. Sometimes shit happens.  Theres no blame here man. At least in my eyes.

6. No but what is? (other than me)

Oh, Zen. Why do I bother.

Dude they're not heartless, the man didn't pay his bills, the power got shut off. End of story.

Read the full article in the above link. He had his power cut off and he froze to death. Heartless electrical company negligence contributed to a World War 2 veteran's death. It sickens me that younger generations disrespect elderly people who built this nation. The World War 2 veteran fought for our freedom.

I guess business does not care about anything except for making money at all costs.  Capitalist American society is appalling.

How many other people will lose their lives due to some evil electrical company cutting off their electrical power during the freezing cold winter?

Cut it off during the warm weather but not the winter.

In england people have free electricity when it is cold out?  Damn i applaud your government.

This. It would be cheaper too.

No, but the Government gives you money to help pay your bills. "Heating allowance" and the such. Mainly for pensioners, the unemployed and people on low incomes. Not enough, really.

Along with communications, gas, water, public transport, mail delivery (it currently is, but it's on the verge of being privatised), areas of the financial sector. There should be greater wealth distribution, more money spent on health/welfare, redevelopment, and education. Pretty much all of the Queen's powers should move to Parliament (with the exception of the ability to dissolve the Government and call elections), there should be huge constitutional reforms (greater levels and equal devolution, elected second chamber, etc), joining the Euro, and moving over to metric system fully.

There you go, my manifesto. Guess what side of the political spectrum I belong to.

There are plenty of programs that provicde that in US as well.  You just have to apply, just cause this guy did not know what he was doing doesn't mean we should bash america.
