I don't personally believe in God... If it does exist though, I don't think they would be like any religion describes them.

If a God is truly good and selfless, it wouldn't judge someone upon their faith, religion or if they believed in God. Otherwise that would mean to send people who do not have a religion or believe in divinity, that did much good to others, in Hell and that would be so wrong and unfair, not what I would call a righteous and great God.

"Believe in me, follow the religion or burn in Hell for eternity". That sounds more like a tyrannous dictator who abuses of his power to control people with fear. Dunno about you but, I wouldn't like to have a God like this.

Statements like these make me smile. Honest straighfoward, compliant with logic.

John 3:16

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only beggotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life."

God is a perfect being, our sins make us imperfect. You are right, God is loving, that is why he sent his son to die to make it possible for us to live with him in heaven. The problem is people see the loving side of God, but dont understand his soverignty. God is truly just, that is why he cant allow unrepentant sinners in heaven. Romans 3:23 says "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." so that includes everyone. Jesus was the only perfect Man, that is why he could be our atonement. God is love, he is the sorce of all love, the Bible says he is not willing that any should perish. It has nothing to do with religion, it is accepting Jesus's sacrifice, or rejecting it. Religion is a human invention, that is what throws people like Wess into a tissy, he sees people abusing God's message to control others. You dont have to be a PART of a religion at all, all you have to do is believe trust in Jesus. That is it. No works, no money to a church.

If you are a Christian you will want to worship God, that is why men created churches. To have a place to worship with others, then the Religion of Christianity grew out of the Churches.

So, a perfect god makes imperfect human beings that he later sends his 'perfect' son to be killed by them, and that somehow forgives their sins?

This all is based upon Jesus being perfect, which is a unsupported claim.

God created us for his glory. Would you rather have a robot tell you that he loves you, or would rather have some who chose to love you, tell you they love you? He gave us the ability to choose to love him or not. We (mankind) made the choice to sin, and lose "perfection" in the garded when we sinned. God out of love, sent his son to give a chance to be redeemed from sin. We chose to reject him (again mankind) therefore we are choosing seperation from God, in hell. He is only giving us the Ability to restore our relationship with him.

As far as Jesus's perfection goes, that is an issue that comes do to whether or not you believe the Bible, which again you do not.

You still didn't explain how it makes any sense, at all.

God makes flawed man, god wants to give man chance to be saved, so god sends down his perfect son and we kill him, and that causes us to be saved? I fail to see how this had any part in the process.

I see no logical connection. Or are you just going to tell me to have more faith?

"Thou shalt have no other gods before me. ... Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them."

Exodus 20:3, 5

This is EXACTLY was Jesus does. He puts himself above god. God is the door to salvation, but he made himself the metaphorical key. Does this count as a bible contradiction or can you explain this?

oh man. oh man. Ok, that is the single most complex doctrinal issue to explain, and to understand. I really need to get to bed, but... look up the Doctrine of the Trinity, it is very complex, but it is scriptural, and it make your entire issue makes sense. You wont get it, but her is the quick version. There are 3 parts of God, but he is one god. God the Son (Jesus Christ), God the Father (Elohim, Jehobah, Shaddoni), and the Holy Spirit. They are all one entinity but yet seperate. That is why when jesus on the cross the bible reports appocolytic events happening on earth during the crucifiction.

So in essance jesus is God, so to worship him is not to worship another god. I am not good at explaining, I suggest you look it up, and read about it. It was the single hardest concept for me to grasp, and I still dont understand everything about it.

also God makes a flawed man, or a better way to put it is an imperfect man (technical, I know). God created that man for his glory, and to have a relationship with him. Man sinned, God is holy and cannot allow sin. In order to remove the sin there needed to be a perfect human take on the sin of the world and conquer death. Jesus accomplished this with his Death and More importantly his resurection. His Resurection is when he conquered death freeing man of his dept of sin. All have to do is except what jesus did for us and he will restore "spiritual" life to us.

well, you certain are a logical, well thought person. I enjoyed discussing this with you and would be happy to continue it later, I need to bed now : ). I encourage you at the least to not settle at there is not God, but at least be open to all possibilies. That is where I was, and God (the Holy Spirit) led me to Jesus.

Jesus did not give himself importance. He does nothing on his own authority and does the will of the Father. If he is doing the will of the Father, then the Father gave Jesus the importance and not Jesus.

It sounds like you are open to the idea of Diesm ("Master Clockmaker Theory")

Ok, I have thought about that too, but what would be the point of creating us if he was just gonna sit back and watch, that would be worse imo, that would almost like he needed some entertainment, so he created people just to see how much trouble we get into. Like the ultimate reality show right?

I think he wants to have a relationship with us, before the fall of man it seems that he had a "fairly" open relationship with mankind, we cut that line in the fall, out of love he created a way to reopen it (jesus)

The thing is, no matter the way you want to think of it or what any books say, there's always a flaw in a "God" (who's supposed to be perfect). See, you think my idea of a God is bored and is using us as entertainment... To me, your God sounds full of vanity, greed, dictator ideals and very judgemental by refusing the doors to heaven to good people who either have another religion or don't believe in him.

There's no perfect being in any religious documents I read or in any way anyone describe it. Even I can't imagine a being that would be perfect to everyone's eyes (as my view of a God sounded nice to me but to you, he was imperfect). See the issue?

I can't really comment about the relationship thing... As I don't really understand it... I mean I know what you mean I just don't get why a God would want a relationship with a mere human. Was he lonely or something? Anyway...

I don't believe in a God though I don't totally dismiss the idea that it might exist. I am, however, positive that if it does exist, it's not like any religion describes it. And a perfect God, in my mind, wouldn't punish anyone that's been good, regardless of faith (or lack of).

Anyway, this is my final reply... I'm tired of it and it's very hard for me to put into words what I think. So, it was fun to talk about it and I'm glad it didn't end into a fight... It wasn't my goal to make anyone angry and/or offended.

Eh... I don'tfit under any of them but put me under atheist I guess. Also can you compress all those into the category of Christianity?

Im a atheist.

Religion is a man made creation, it was created the way it is into scarring people. To do what you wanted others to do. (Heaven and Hell)

To me it is a fantasy with no evidence what so ever, Religion causes war, it is barbaric.

Anyone wants to argue ill be ready to respond

I say we should just go back to polling

Put me down as Roman Catholic.

@ halogamer1989, I second that.

Pacman taught people to run around in dark rooms munching on pills while listening to repettive techno music and for that I somewhat idolise him.

thoroughly atheist

This is ridiculous and plain wrong.

There is not a religion called baptism, nor lutheran, nor orthodox, nor catholic. They're all christians. They belong to the christian religion.

For clarification: many catholics may call themselves simply "Catholic" or "Roman catholic" just to point out that they belong to the universal/true/original (=catholic) church of Christ (as opposed to all the christian sects out there). But Catholics officialy declare themselves to be christians. This is not debatable.

So it should be:

Edit: I'm not saying it's your fault SciFiBoy, it's because of squabble between christians and how people chose to reply in the thread, but you really should fix it and sort people under the right category.
