This would be another in a long line of cases dating back to the ancient Greeks where someone mistakes that their opinion should be and/or is the universal view--in other words, an interesting, if clichéd, fallacy that, seemingly, never quite goes out of style. (In other words, it isn't enough that you enjoy a game/book/movie a great deal, but anyone that disagrees must, by extension, be foolish, wicked or stupid when it could just be, to that individual, the game/book/movie in question simply does not resonate or, put more simply, their opinion differs from your own for any number of reasons.)
(And, for the record, I generally enjoy Valve's work, if not quite to the cult-like level on display in this quote.)

I refuse to amend "IMO" to a statement which is reflexively my opinion, which cannot be anything but my opinion. Obviously Portal's quality is my opinion - I am not even referring to the general consensus (and there is much on this point) that Portal was the game to beat in 2007, or at least one of the top two.
I appreciate your attempt to curb the fallacy that opinion = fact, but a more rampant fallacy on this website (of which you have fallen victim to) is that "statement of opinion = statement of opinion as fact" in all cases where an "in my opinion" is not tacked onto the end of it.

I don't know what's worse. The indignation over Gabe Newell being allowed to have an opinion that doesn't favor Sony and the PS3, or that Sony fanboys are actually making 3rd grade level fat/food jokes and then high fiving each other as if they accomplished some remotely witty act.

Halo? Gears? COD? Are those just average shooters too?
I'm getting sick of this coming up all the time. What is a NON-average shooter? What does a shooter have to do to not be average in your eyes? You think L4D isn't average? Instead of killing maybe 5 or 6 guys in one setting you kill 20. Is L4D thus not average because of numbers? So basically...because L4D is just Dynasty Warriors in first person, it's totally "fresh" "new" and "innovative".....get the f*** outta here

your right most of those games are averag
but l4d is more of a mix of dungeon spawner, dynasty warriors, and fps action, with survival horro thorwn i
so yeah its pretty new
and FYI a shooter can be new and inventive
look at condemned 2 for proof of that , that game while flawed in some ways had a great new experience to the FPS area-----make a FPS that doosent rely on only guns and has a kick ass fighting system as well
if your out of ammo flip the GD gun around a beat the hell out of teh bum rushing you or rip a pipe from the wall and smash his face in (greatest game this gen so far and best new series in the last 5 years) and dont even get me started on trying to solve crimes by interprting teh crime scenes and being rewarded for how wqell you do....good talking about that games makes me want a thrid one so bad!!!
