How is that "spin"? It is pretty well known that each numbered installment of FF has had its own universe. I don't need to play FFVII to understand anything about the plot in FFX. Similarly, I will not need to know anything about FFXII to play the first game coming to Xbox, FFXIII.
With that being said, how is that setup at all similar to ME, which has an intricate story arc spanning multiple games with the same characters? I would venture to say these two franchises are polar opposites in thsi sense. The only similarities is that they both have multiple iterations either released or in the works.
And whoever is nit picking the Star Wars analogy - take The Lord of the Rings instead. The point is still the same as described above. There should be no comparison here, and frankly it sounds like a few PS3 boys are jealous on multiple counts of not confirming a PS3 version of ME2 and giving up FF exclusivity.
