Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why all the hype for Killzone2?

I see the beta part now, I overlooked that. My bad.

but still. It's unbelievebly inconcieveable to acclaim something that is not finished / released yet. When the game has been out a month, and its everything you thought it would be, and the sales are high. Then say it lives up to the hype all you want, but the fact that there are people (plural, i.e. not just picking on yu) saying it IS, when it has yet to come, is baflingly stupid in epic porportions.

Mmm...

Everyone has said it has deep online multiplayer and supurb singleplayer. But have any of you played the game yet? Isn't this the stuff that was said about Haze.

And I haven't listened to reviews since God Hand got a bad reviews XP

I'm not saying it'll be a bad game, but, I remember when Halo 3 was all hyped up, and, well, it ended up being mediocre IMO.

It does look beautiful though...

Thank you, I forgot to mention that.

Killzone 2 is supposed to help save the PS3.

True, Haze was hyped, and it had decent impressions from journalsits. But I don't think in any time in Haze's life did it have a metacritic rating of 95. In fact, when people refer to games being Hazed, they refer to it having negative reviews and having a low metacritic rating, exspecially after having been hyped. So if anything, Killzone 2 is the exact opposite. Perhaps later giving us a term for games that were hyped to hell and succeded in the hype? Other then ratings givin by journalists the only thing left is opinion, and no offense but your opinion doesn't mean shit more then any other gamer out there. Many of which have the exact opposite reaction to the game and guess what, surprise surprise, many of them actually own the system it's exclusive to. But I'll surely listen to reviewers and gamers who participated in the beta before the words of a blind xbot. But thanks for reminding us all that we don't have another Haze on our hands. ;)

PS3 Trophies

It certainly won't be haze, but it could just as easily be the next Resistance 2, or GTA IV. Something that by next year everyone will say "Yeah, I mean it wasn't a bad game or anything, but we sure did have our heads up our ass."

Cetainly that could be the truth. But like you said, it certainly isn't Haze. However, I hope you can see the irony of people who think the game will be awful having a problem with people hyping the game. How is it that they can hate it, but we can't hype it?

Oh yeah, totally. People shouldn't be detracting or saying it won't be good. But the amount of faith put in reviews and beta testers despite their obvious past failures is just amusing. It's just one side of fanboys against the other. I really try to stay nuetral and just play the damn games for myself without wanking off to a company logo.

If you've played R2 and knew the basics of KZ2's multiplayer, you'd know how silly that sounds.

R2 felt rushed in so many ways. I got excited about it's Skirmish mode - 60 players divided into squads, taking on multiple objectives. Too bad no one really mentioned that you'd spend pretty much the entire match chasing after some damn beacons, with Assassination tossed in there on a rare occasion.....it's horribly repetitive. Now KZ2's Warzone mode is constantly switching between 5 different gametypes so things don't get so dull.

I don't mind IGN's 9.4 for KZ2, but I still think that R2's 9.5 is pretty damn stupid - I have no idea why people take them seriously anymore.

So how do you decide whether or not to buy the "damn game" so that you can even play it to find out?

Personally I take word of mouth over reviews and that did fail in the case of R2 since I bought it very early but I'm curious as to what makes you take the plunge?

A combination of previews and how much money I have on hand at the time. I've been playing games a long time, I know what I like, and I know when I see something interesting.

I'm getting Killzone 2 because COD4 has gotten old and I want a new Multiplayer FPS. I like the idea of making a Final Fantasy Tactics like job system where you can mix and match, and use experience to purchase abilities. Plus I want to see how the game looks on my big HD TV with my surround sound, and I've got the cash right now. Smoke 'em if you got'em.

I do listen to word of mouth, but not word of mouth based on a small fraction of the game. Again, Resistance 2's multiplayer had great word of mouth from the beta. I thought the beta was great too under the assumption that this was just the beginning. I think word of mouth becomes alot more reliable the more time that passes. People have a more objective view of a game once they have moved on to being hyped about something else.
