Forums - Nintendo - The fear I have ( wii support related)

I am honestly surprised at the lack of Wii title announcements considering its sales momentum. My preference for the PS3 aside, there really isn't that much to look for besides first party titles in 2008 that have been announced so far. Here is the 2008 list from IGN (most up-to-date list I know of). There are roughly 65 2008 titles. On the PS3 list, there is about 135 2008 titles. Don't believe me, check for yourself: http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html I am not saying Wii titles won't get announced, but WHERE the hell are they? I am shocked at how many devs still seem to be dragging their feet when the Wii is obviously going to pass the 360.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

You don't have to worry about Nintendo, they will be just fine. They have this thing called profit, and another thing called a plan. See where ever Nintendo goes, it brings these things around with it. Plus Nintendo is bigger than Sony, so Nintendo isn't really the little guy, that investors should worry about.

Oh, and many people buy crappy games. Crappy games don't hurt a console, because the people who buy them are too dumb to know they are bad (see: Steven787 loves Blazing Angels, what an idiot. Er, oh, that's me)

kind of off topic... how do you love blazing angels?  maybe i'll get it when it's like 20 or 30 bucks.  there isn't much other games like it out there for the wii.

the Wii is an epidemic.

You have to remember, that those 2008 titles fos PS3 are started in 2006, if it's true, that PS3 games need 2 years to develope, when Wii games take 1 year. So title announced today, could still get 2008 release. Developers need to finish their current projects before new ones, so they don't yet have the time for Wii (unless they cancel or delay the current projects). We still have plenty of time for 2008 Wii announcements.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

I think that Nintendo, considering there position in the market, doesn't need to show everyone all there cards right now, the system is selling really well and people trust them, they are not in a desperate position as Sony where they have to make big announcement to get some attention from the public. It might be fun for us to know right now every games that will come out on the Wii but I think that it's just not business wise because right now the Wii is almost sold out everywhere why the hell will they need to make announcement right now? And Nintendo probably want to make Sony and MS guessing what there next move will be not show them everything and wait for them to counter it.

Like I said before there will be more Japanese oriented game for Wii because in Japan:

1. Wii install base > PS3 + Xbox360 install base.
2. Wii dev cost 3. Wii sofware sold > PS3 + Xbox360 sofware sold

Isn't it logical that if your a serious Japanese developer that you will prefer the Wii?

Nitendo can survive on 1st party support like they did on the GC and N64 for the most part, they still won't see that much third party support like the PS1/PS2 did. Or even big third party support like the 360/PS3/PC have.

I think this argument has a major flow. Third Party is not fixed size. Even if the current big 3rd Party decide not to develop for the Wii, there is still money to make on that plattform, lots of. Just look at Red Steel and RE4, games sell on the Wii and are cheap to delevop. Some 3rd Party Developers will use that to make money. And i can't see how the Wii is not backed up by 3rd Party at the moment. Ok, there are not much big hits, but a lot of 3rd Party were cought with their "pants down" (said EA).

Not a lot of people believed the Wii would hit. EA has allready said they will be doing more on the Wii. Ubisoft will do games. Even Rockstar is bringing games to the Wii. OK, at the moment not GTA but games that use the same enging (Table Tennis). I think they are testing what they can do on the Wii (Graphic and Gameplaywise) and how good it seels (Bully and Manhunt2). If these test are successful if have no doubt some GTA will hit the Wii, there is just to much Money to make.

You aren't really disagreeing with me.  I was just soothing the worry for Nintendo.  I think big titles will come from 3rd parties, but it hasn't mattered yet and it won't matter later as far as hardware sales.

It'll be nice for us Wii owners though.

@Lingyis:  It's a fun little game, the audio editing sucks but the gameplay is fun.  The pilots are likable.  2-player is fun.  Getting all the medals is a good challenge.  I am buying BAII on PS3 when it comes out, but I am 90% sure it won't be as good(or bad).

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Massive third party support will be comin' in a very progressive way, but like many already said, it's not that important in late 2007 or early 2008, as Nintendo's next big hits will be huge system sellers, and take most of the money of previous Wii owners...

But later, i think it will all depend on a handful of titles with real "mass appeal"... when a good Star War game will be out there, or when the next GTA will be out there, then some 3rd parties will have massive hits as well, and prove to the rest of the industry Wii's the place to be...

After that point, we'll see even more games comin', and then case's closed, Wii will have the same kind of catalog than PS2, many kinds of games for all the kinds of gamers out there, and of course, many hits and many flops, as usual on any platform... but expect some masterpieces along the way...

"A beautiful drawing in 480i will stay beautiful forever...

and an ugly drawing in 1080p will stay ugly forever..."

As long as Sony and Microsoft are losing money and Nintendo isn't, "support" does not matter even a little. Really.

Actualy Wii is getting the same amount of shit 3d party support that PS1/PS2 got, so this isn't really true.
