People shouldn't trust scores plublished under an embargo. Instead they should take a look at the reviews and read between the lines. Despite giving a 9/10 Eurogamer doesn't seem very hyped about the game.
Read these excerps :
GRAPHICS
"The internet will no doubt rage for weeks as to whether Killzone 2 is the best-looking console game evah, but it's fair to say that if there's a list, it's going to be near the top."
GAMEPLAY
"It swiftly becomes apparent that Killzone 2 isn't going to be pushing beyond the boundaries of its genre."
SCENARIO
"All could have been drawn from any shooter of the last five years, and it's only the mixture of convincing animation and above-average voice acting that brings them [the caracters] to life. The script certainly doesn't help much, since most of it seems to consist of people barking "F*** dis shit!" and "Go! Go!" over and over."
"The revival system also makes a mockery of a later plot development, which I won't spoil. Suffice to say that anyone who wondered why Cloud didn't just use a Phoenix Down on Aeris will face a similar clash between the needs of the story and the mechanics of the gameplay."
MULTIPLAYER
It's really only once you've unlocked these options that the multiplayer comes to life, feeling narrow in scope at first but offering enviable depth in the long term.
CONCLUSION
Taken as a whole, Killzone 2 doesn't initially seem to offer enough to justify the superlatives that have been dutifully set aside by the PS3 faithful. Despite the often-stunning graphics, it's often derivative of other titles and doesn't - on the surface - seem to have much that distinguishes it from the herd.
It's deceptive though. This is a methodical shooter that makes few concessions to those not already interested in its single-minded approach to cover-based military action. I've compared it to Rainbow Six in the past, but it also calls to mind F.E.A.R, another tough tactical effort that was often misunderstood by those expecting a frag-happy spook hunt. Killzone 2 is a taut and muscular game, a shooter that gives back more than you put in, provided you have the intestinal fortitude. It may take its time revealing its true depths and pleasures, but the journey is well worth taking. Between Killzone 2's unforgiving grit and Resistance 2's alien-bursting excess, the PS3 finally has both ends of the shooter spectrum covered in grand style.

Actually, it reads like most of their reviews: measured, well-reasoned, honest about the reviewer's biases and forthcoming about his point of view.
It seems to me that you want it to be a spittle-flecked, foaming-at-the-mouth, 'it's the greatest thing ever'-type review before being willing to concede that the score is justified by the accompanying text when, in actuality, explicit levelheadedness and sober appraisal is their hallmark and is why a large number of people put a great deal of stock in their reviews (and I don't say this as a deranged Sony fanboy--I won't be buying the game--but as a fan of Eurogamer's brand of careful critique).

Exactly, it reads like most of their reviews but not like those who got 9/10. You should check for yourself. Reading Gears2s' makes it pretty obvious.
I guess you're not a fan of Eurogamer's review afterall, huh.

Obvious to whom, exactly?
It's also interesting that you chose to neglect pointing out that they're written by two different individuals, isn't it? I mean, far be it for me to suppose (or even expect) that two completely different human beings might approach their critiques from different angles, but I still fail to see how it's any more clear that Gears of War 2 deserves its 9 more than Killzone 2, purely based on a textual analysis. After all, you may not like that the individual reviewing Killzone 2 went into greater detail about precisely what it is you're getting with it, but that doesn't make it any less worthy of its score--unless, of course, you are insinuating that you have some special insight into the author's mind (which wouldn't be surprising, given that the Internet is chock-a-block with mind readers that can divine an individuals intent purely by cherry-picking and parsing select quotes).
But, hey, believe what you wish: clearly you are a member of the school of (Internet) thought that states that because you believe it, it must be so, since the best you can offer is "Reading Gears2s' makes it pretty obvious"...to you.
