Forums - Sales - Does all Europe discount like the UK?

I notice that UK prices seem to be heavily discounted, even on yet to be released titles. Is this kind of thing common throughout Europe?

In the US, discounting to that degree does not happen. It is more exception than the rule, that a newer game will get any kind of discount.

It also makes me wonder what effect it has on sales and profitiability.

I don't know about all Europe, but I don't think so. There seems to be much more competition and good deals among British retailers.

In Portugal and Sweden (the two European countries I know best) it's definitely not the case. Not only are new Wii games often 60 € (and 360/PS3 ones 70 €), they also take much longer to get discounted. All these prices include sales tax as is mandatory in European price tags.

This is why I buy most of my games from Amazon UK or other British websites. Even more so now with the cheap British Pound.

Well here in Sweden I don't see anything like that.

New Ps360 games always seems to costs 599-649 kr ( 74-80$ )

Same with Wii games 499-599 ( 62-74$ )

Gameprice don't usually change until after a couple of months, but if they do it's beacuse they flop like Lair or Haze.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

Actually you're doing the conversions wrong.

649 kr = less than 62 €

But I've seen some new PS360 games selling for 699 kr or almost 70 €.

EDIT - I just noticed you said $ not €

649.00 SEK=81.0818 USD according to xe.com.

Didn't see many good prices when I was living in Germany.

Yeah I thought he was converting to € instead of $. My bad.

Regarding comparisons with $ it's worth pointing out that European prices include sales tax unlike American prices.

Since I can now order games from UK, I will never ever buy a video game in Slovenia. Thats how bad the prices are. NEVER discounted.

Nope new PS360 games in Germany always start with a 70€ price tag.
It's really crazy how much I bought from the UK this month and how much I'm going to buy next month :)

Ireland has a lot of UK retailers so games do get discounted quite quickly over here. (I think Prince of Persia was discounted only 2 days after launch?) Prices don't generally drop as low as in the UK however, which is what's leading to the current flux in the amount of people importing games.

well well guess it's time to use amazon UK :)
