Forums - Gaming - Live For Gaming: 25 Most Anticipated Games of 2009

I expect Mass Effect 2 to release this year. It's a trilogy, and you can't spread it out more then two years a release.

The Magic the Gathering XBLA game is supposed to release in spring '09. Anticipated at least by me.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Very nice, Zucas. I have a hard time believing Alan Wake is more anticipated than Halo: ODST, but it's a nice list.

Personally, I'm dying to play Alan Wake but I think a lot of the missing hype behind ODST is because it's a relatively new announcement. As its release nears, expect the gaming world to go fucking crazy. Personally, I'm hugely excited for the title. Bungie gets a lot of shit for the Halo series but they're a damned fine developer. I'm eager to see what a new world without the constraints of Master Chief will do to their gameplay. They have the talent and if anything, I think they've been confined over the past decade trying to keep the Halo franchise popular and mainstream.

Great, i think than its the best "most anticipated games of 09" list out there.

Congratz.

End of 2011 (made 02/01/11)
Wii: 99.453 m
Xbox 360: 67.837 m
Ps 3: 60.726 m

Best Games/Serie of the Generation

And Madworld? I don't think that even belongs on a top 50 list.
There's no hype and little anticipation for it outside a niche group.
If it was anticapted, I'd think the madworld board at gamefaqs would be a lot more lively.

FFXIII will only come out 2010 in the west: http://kotaku.com/5132555/you-wont-play-final-fantasy-xiii-until-2010

First of all, FF13 being behind RE5 is a joke. Not only will FF13 sell more but your logic for putting KZ2 all the way down at #9 doesn't seem to factor in your little equation at all for RE5.

Alan Wake being that far up is a little far fetched, imo. We know more about Heavy Rain than Alan Wake and the genres each are attempting are more proven for Heavy Rain. GoW3 being below a largely unknown title like Alan Wake is also baffling.

Monster Hunter 3 is way too high, imo, because its biggest popularity arose from being portable. It's not as popular outside of Japan, either.

Is Star Ocean even that popular?

But hey, I'll give you Starcraft 2. I lived on that game for years.

Diablo 3 - We may not know the date, but same thing for several games in that list. Hell, FFXIII and God of War 3 were confirmed for 2010 (FFXIII by a head honcho, GoW3 by the lead artist I think).

Dragon Age: Origins - The return of Bioware to it's roots. Dragon Age is being called the spiritual sequel of the best RPG ever, Baldur's Gate 2, and so far it is earning that acclaim with the gameplay mechanics and it's dark fantasy setting. I can't believe how someone would put Tales of 10 and Star Ocean above Dragon Age.

Guild Wars 2 - It's not being talked much in the forums, but the game will be HUGE like the first one (which sold over 5 millions). It will also be the first MMORPG to not have additional revenue from subscriptions/transactions, only needing the Disc to play it.

I doubt GoW 3 is confirmed for 2010, because then we would see a lot of comments about the PS3 lineup for 2009 looking a lot less impressive than it does right now. Yes, I believe too that it won't be out in 2009 but many people are still hoping since it's only January still. FF13 belongs on list because technically it's released this year. But the chance of Diablo 3 releasing this year is just zero, no need even to argue about that, you know that too.

Now that you put it that way, I admit it feels awkward to see Star Ocean 4 there but not DA:Origins. Perhaps we can just blame the hype phenomenon - PC gamers aren't as vocal as crazy console fanboys. But, don't you somewhat agree that once the game was actually revealed (by releasing trailers) a some of the magic surrounding DA:Origins got less? Or is it just me who felt kinda disappointed by how it looks?

GW2, you may be rite. A MMORPG sequel could be very anticipated but isn't getting hype because people are busy playing the original lol.

Slimebest, I agree that there's no way on earth that Blizzard is releasing both SC2 and D3 in the same year. Only in Heaven, people. Another anecdote for you guys:  I learned to type playing Diablo.

Just a couple of small corrections:

You state that Resistance was a good title on the PC, as opposed to PS3.

And also, GTA: Chinatown Wars is not the first GTA to hit a Nintendo platform; the GBA had a Grand Theft Auto game.

But good list. Ignore all the complainers - you can't please everyone all the time.
