Don't forget all Retail Office, retail operating system, and embedded os sales are included in this division.

Absolute crap, it includes Windows Mobile as an OS, but that's it

From Microsoft.com

The E&D Division is composed of five main businesses: the Interactive Entertainment Business, home to the Xbox and Games for Windows gaming platforms; the Mobile Communications Business, which develops and markets Windows Mobile software, services and applications; the Music Business, developers of Zune portable entertainment devices and services; the Connected TV Business, which includes Microsoft Mediaroom and Windows Media Center; and the Specialized Devices and Applications Business, which includes the Hardware Group, Microsoft Surface, Office for Mac, Microsoft Auto and Windows Embedded software.

Has anyone ever purchased Office or Windows from retail?

Wrong: it's Entertainment and Devices Division, and there is a lot in it, includin Windows Mobile, Embedded, Auto, Office for Mac (why it's not in Business together with Office for Windows is beyond human understanding)

Because everyone and their mothers know that makes are for fun, entertaining guys, and not for businesses.

ouch,.

but i wouldnt call it a "distasterous december quarter"

the Xbox division DID make a $150 million profit and they did make $4.9 billion profit as a whole.

Lower then expected, but thats almost 5 billion.

I got a Zune mid last year when they came out in Canada. I love it. I hope they keep making them so I never get to see Itunes again.

@Impulsivity
I see lots of people with Zunes here. Its seen kind of like the alternative for people that don't feel like following the herd. Kinda like Macs are to PCs... except its pretty obvious that Zune is cheaper and better in every way than the same spec Ipod.

   A) you clearly have not seen/tried an ipod touch.  It is the same as the iphone minus the calls (still has wifi, internet, email, chatting, song downloads, great navigation, apps ect ect ect).  It blows the Zune's very limited feature set away.

Sure if you want to say the Zune is better then the 5 year old ipod classic go right ahead, but that is missing the point.

   B) how in the world is buying a microsoft product an alternative for people who don't like following the herd?  MS is without a doubt THE herd company.  That's like saying I'm an outsider when it comes to fast food so I eat at McDonalds.  The Zune existing at all is PRECISELY microsoft following the ipod herd by making a me too player that is more or less identical (at least identical to the old ipods).  They even made the mini Zune to rip off the ipod nano, Zune touch and Zunephone are probably right around the corner...bastion of innovation MS is.

And what's wrong with itunes?  It's by far the easiest and best music service/program out now.  What do you prefer?  Windows media player?  please.

A. If that Ipod classic still works that is...

B. Only when the word on the street says Office or Operating system.

Tease.

The Zune is awesome and the service and software is so much less intrusive than iTunes it's not even funny. I can even uninstall Zune and not have to manually clean my registry.

A. on the platform itunes was developed for its just drag and drop to get rid of it no uninstall required.

B. I blame windows for still having the registry that was supposed to be gone with vista... and wait its still here in seven.. god what an archaic pice of on an OS. Always fun digging around in there because some file got hosed that controls security in outlook, or hey look at that and end users spell check no longer works in any MS app... back to the registry.... you can use command line too, but thats a pain as well.

C. oh and incase you didnt know zune software leaves files behind lots of them scattered to the wind depending on your install of windows, but then every software on windows platforms do that.

sorry about the rant ..... I hate registry and feel that MS need to put out a new OS which only supports legacy software through a virtual machine that is built in and slowly faze out the old os there are just too many things wrong with the foundation its built on

MS needs to look at the OS9 to OSX transition copy and carry it out quicker.

god I hate registry and everything to do with the file structure in windows.....   though active directory can be fun on networked computers

I think a better question is why would Microsoft put the Office/Operating System retail sales in the Xbox division?  I think retail sales of PC Office, XP, Vista, and Mac Office is substantial.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

A better question is why would you call the EDD the XBox division.
