Forums - Sales - First day sales in Japan (1/22) - Fragile, Left 4 Dead, Zill O'll

I guess they made a mistake, no way there are two special versions when the special bit is exactly the same. Gotta love it, though...

I think i was looking at another game, demon souls. but seriously I don't remember games being this costly. Guess I never looked at prices for a long time.

Well, they are much cheaper at Amazon, just look at Demon's Souls:

I dont believe fragile did to bad. I think it actually did good for 45pct first day. Going to have to wait till the weekend over to see how it span out.

I TAKE NO SIDES

Fragile did pretty good. I predict 80k-100k lifetime.

And think of it this way:  at least it didn't do "Disaster:  Day of Crisis" type numbers.  Whether the game will do more than that or even come to America remains to be seen.  Nonetheless, selling about 45% of a 35K shipment is better than nothing.  So it's not a total failure.

Yep Fragile did what most people expected in Japan and apparently Namco Bandai knew that as well. Only shipped about 40,000 and it'll sell about 30k-35k in its first week. I guessed 50k first week and 100k LT so I'll be pretty spot on for totals.

Not surprising considering new IPs continue to bomb in Japan. Namco better make sure they release this outside of Japan.

Again, Namco Bandai doesn't decide how much units will be shipped at launch. Hey Zucas you know that

True but its silly to think that developers don't have an idea already of how much shipments they can expect to release first week.  They wouldn't be very good developers if they didn't know that.  This is why many people's expectations of about 50k first week was pretty well justified and I'm sure Namco knew this as well.

Retailers order them, but the publisher already has a good idea of how much that's going to be anyways. But of course I knew that, it's just it would also be silly to think the publisher didn't know that also which is what I was trying to say.

not bad sales, considering namco doesnt market their own games very much. unless its a soulcalibur or tekken series game, then they market the hell out of them.

Fragile sold according to my expectations. I expectd 20 k first week.
The problem of most people for Fragile numbers, is that many believe it is a JRPG, perhaps because of Tri Crescendo (which would make no sense, but whatever). Fragile is an adventure game like Zelda, it is not a JRPG at all.
So basically, all the comparisons to JRPG are flawed from the start.
A new adventure game just can't sell a lot, like Tenchu 4 showed.
As for Suzumiya, it's even worse: people are comparing games with good production value that were out when the series was still popular, to a rhythm game whose only appeal is for the hardcore fans because it's way too late to launch such a game. Seriously...

Just what I expected for Fragile, it may sell 5k more for the first week, but in line. I expect 20k first week and about 40k-50k lifetime.

Not good at all, but I was at least realistic. Just by looking at Rune Factory Frontier, Tenchu, Naruto, Disaster, Harvest Moon, Fatal Frame, etc you get an idea of how well games like this will sell. I dont think the Wii holds the audience that is willing to buy these games, but HD costs would be too high. PS2 is still the most viable home console, unless developers wanna go the portable route.

Home consoles are dead.
