Forums - Sony - 3rd Parties: Why Would They Pick The PS3 Anymore?

@ amirnetz

the sales aren't 27m to 17m. its 28m to 20m. 360 had a 1 year head start. Developers know the PS3 is selling and is most definitely worthy of their time to develop for. Since the PS3 came out sales for it and the 360 have been neck and neck.

I think you're wrong, most developers have been working with the PS3 for a while now and can program for it. I think they realized if they didn't invest a little time in learning the hardware they were going to lose a lot of possible sales.

Also, the future of gaming is programming games with a multi-threaded approach and supporting the latest multi-core processors (ask Crytek). If developers have any mind for the future, which I'm sure they do as the gaming industry is a business, they would definitely want to get themselves acquainted with the PS3.

Read my post again. It is 27M to 17M if you exclude Japan, where most western titles are not published. Certainly none of the smaller western titles. Therefore, the gap in the markets relevant for the smaller studios is 10M.

Please look at the list I posted above for 55 third party titles denied on the PS3 to see that indeed a substantial number of full titles are denied from thr PS3. 55 titles are about over 20% of 3rd party titles to be released in 2009. Pretty significant.

Guys, these are facts. Not fanboy delusions.

god excluding japan?!. >_o.

Because...because...because...because...all the wonderful things it does (could do)!

I'm sick of all these dumb ass topics. Damn PS3 haters plague this site, and they make the most illogical claims.

The bottom line: If you are a smaller developer with a limited budget then focusing on a single platform is not such an bad option. In fact, there are around 50 third party titles due to release this year that will skip the PS3 to save these costs. Are they all fools? No. Just doing their math.

lmao well what are these 50 3rd party tiels bud.

yahh got none do you.

Any samll dev will skip 360 all together and develop a Psn title, just doing their math.

You might want to do your research bud.

Look in the thread http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=50914

Here is a summary for your convinience. Look for the inclusion rules in the thread. the list dates back to October and covers the period to the end of 2009 .

Showing on the 360 but denied on the PS3:

SOME LIST

I completely understand your point, but the I read "50 third party titles due to release this year that will skip the PS3 to save these costs" as there being 50 new third party exclusives being realeased on the 360 this year. Just looking at that list, though, a lot of those exclusive third party games look like junk. Just about every good third party game is multi-platform, which makes the 360 the better option for most given it costs half the price of the PS3. [iamgettingstreetfighterivforps3though]

...

And whoever said BlazBlue is going to be a PS3 exclusive, nobody knows at this point. ArkSys also made Battle Fantasia, which was released on the 360/PS3 in Japan, but only ported over to the 360 in America. BlazBlue is basically the next in the Guilty Gear line of games, and that's their big fighter. I doubt they'd only release it on the PS3 given the precedent they've set with Battle Fantasia. Actually, I'm kind of paranoid it'll only get a 360 release and I'll have to buy some 360 stick if I want to play it. Which I wouldn't then, I guess.

As I said, it is the small studios that cannot afford to go multi-plat. And this typically means it is mostly modest titles that will skip the PS3.

That said, these titles have a place in the eco-system. Apparently people are buying them. Not in huge quanitities but enough to keep this industry going. They have their fans. They have their market. And their lack on the PS3 cause a cummulative damage.

50 titles not showing on the PS3 in 2009 translate not just to a reduced selection on the platform, but also an image and presence problem. It means a sense of a "losing platform, with less 3rd party support". It also means less shelves space for the PS3 in retail.

Again, this is significant.

So

A few low-key Japanese developement projects will be exclusive to PS3, which will eventually come to the USA. Stuff like Blazblue, Cross Edge, Disgaea 3 etc. We'll see a few of these every year but er, that's gonna be it for non-Sony influenced exclusives.

Other then that, everything is going to be PS360, no ones going to support either platform exclusively without Microsoft or Sony giving them a reason to.

The major publishers seem happy at the moment to keep their higher tier teams on PS360 developement and their more inexperienced teams on the Wii. I honstly don't see that changing in the west, not so sure about Japan though.

Versus XIII, Yakuza 3 and LA Noire are low key, right? Hell, LA Noire isn't even Japanese.

OT: They develop for the PS3 because it gives them an extra 20 million userbase. If they make a REALLY good multiplat, give it a first day PS3 release, it will cross 4 million sold, easily. That's what, another $100 million in revenue (factoring in Greatest Hits etc.)?

There's no way it costs even nearly that much to develop for the PS3 in addition to the 360. Even smaller, lower quality titles tend to break a million on PS3, perhaps $25 million in revenue. Still a lot more than they have paid to develop the game on both HD consoles.

I think a better title would be "3rd Parties: Why would they make non-moneyhatted exclusives anymore?"

The answer being, of course, that they wouldn't. With the exception of some developers on the Wii, which seems to be beginning to happen.

That list is obsolete. Maybe you should do a little more research when you're looking at the information. Most of those games I have NEVER heard of. If these games are going to push the 360 that much over the PS3 then I feel sorry for gaming in general. The worst part of it is the fact that I barely found Splinter Cell: Conviction or Star Ocean amidst the shovelware. The Last Remnant was left on there only because I feel that at least somebody somewhere might have some interest in it still so I figured I'd leave it on there. Also, some of those games were on the Ps2....I don't know if I'm being completely snobcore here or not but I don't know if I'd really trust the 360 version of Secret Service to be of great quality when it came out on the PS2 too.

Also, PS3 does have a lot of independant games coming out on it as well. Not to mention, it's not expensive to create for the PSN. Pixeljunk and Flow games are prime examples of this.

The list is good and was vetted for many days by multiple reviewers. Go to the thread and read the rule and following discussion. The last update was 3 weeks back.

The fact that "you never heard of" a game does not matter. It is still coming out. The authority is VGReleases and not your hearing.

The fact that you don't like some of the games and you don't care if they don't show up on the PS3 also matters little. Apparently someone thought it is a good investment to make the game because other gamers (not you) will actually spend money to buy it.  While some will sell poorly, some will be a great success and all will sell at least some units.

One more hint bud... you striking down the items from the list does not change the fact that the titles are coming out on the 360 but are skipping the PS3 (or at least having a timed exclusive on the 360).

Unless you have solid information to dispute the accuracy of the list, please refrain from editing it. These kind of edits are fanboy vandalism. If you have solid info to identify inaccuracies in the list please let me know and and update the list myself.

Are you saying that it is a bad thing that the ps3 isn't getting those games? I'd argue otherwise. I'd hate for the ps3 to be a bastion for shovelware like the wii is. Granted, I would like to see L4D and splinter cell...but L4D may have a chance to be ported later, and splinter cell will more than likely turn out to be a multiplatform game.

LMFAO

what a list only two games worth anything the rest crap no one has ever heard of, do most even exist seriously do they. Just who the hell is making them ?

might as well champion angle rings as a massive PS3 exclusive to counter that crap.
