Forums - Microsoft - Alan Wake will be HUGE!

Just don't jinx the game. The last game that was hyped to be huge didn't really get the stellar sales everyone had hoped for.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Not to derail the thread but I think at the end of the day, Alan Wake will play very diffrent from HEAVY RAIN. Alan Wake = sand box survival horror(WOW, THE AWESOMENESS) and HEAVY RAIN will be a mature themed, adult thriller/adventure, but not sand box style (MORE AWESOMENESS). A bit different but both will = PURE WIN!!!

You guys need to wise up. This is a parody thread.

Anyway, yes, past that, both these games will be good.

You seem to be a Heavy Rain fan, but I wonder if you've ever played Indigo Prophecy. Heavy Rain is a spiritual sequel to this game, and the gameplay is identical. Story and graphics have been upgraded. If you think you might become a HR fanboy, you really should play that game. You have no business discussing the gameplay if you haven't, seeing as how the gameplay in them both, ala quicktime cutscenes are directly copy and pasted.

You wanna see Heavy Rain? Go to youtube and type in "Indigo Prophecy."

That said, Indigo Prophecy is a great game, especially to those people who enjoy attempts at more adult narratives in their gaming. Virtually a moviei in a game, with a lot of tense moments thrown in there so you can pretend like you're actually playing. I would say it's one of the best and most under-rated games of last gen, and I recommend it to anyone.

If you are hyped about Heavy Rain, but have never played Indigo Prophecy, then you really shouldn't be taken seriously by anyone, including yourself. Your game, Heavy Rain, is already out, except then they called it Indigo Prophecy, and it's awesome. Why aren't you playing it?

30 percent parody thread.

70 percent hype thread.

This is really a hype thread, since i havnt seen any topics about this game <_<..

I 100% agree on the Indigo Prophecy point (and mentioned it in one of my earlier posts on this thread as the last great real life adventure game).  It just hits every point perfectly and at this point its 9.99 in a ton of places.  If you haven't played it there isn't a better use of 10 dollars anywhere in the world.

I don't know if either Alan Wake or Heavy Rain can beat Indigo Prophecy but I hope so, 6 years is a long time to wait for a strong spiritual sequel to one of my 5 favorite games of all time.

the directors cut only 19.95.  You could find the PS2 version for even less on half.com or at a gamestop.

Why do people think this game will be big, because it looks good? This and Heavy Rain will be lucky to break a million, shocked people think this or that other game will sell millions.

Alan Wake:
31 employee staff
3+ years of active development
9+ million dollar budget

Killzone 2
130 employee staff
5 years of active development
30-60 million dollar budget

I think Alan Wake looks pretty damn good considering the resources. Even though it is being published by Microsoft, Remedy funded the game themselves for a while. Can you imagine if Remedy had 130 people and 30 million dollars? This game wouldn't be playable due to eye cancer caused by exposure to pure unfiltered awesomeness.

I'd like some links or sources here.

Alan Wake was first announced in May 2005 before E3. Link.

Killzone 2 was first announced in June 2005 at E3. Link.

Where are the extra 2 years of development time for Killzone 2 coming from?

The first article shows that Remedy Entertainment were working on Alan Wake back in May 05' (almost certainly well before that, as screenshots of the game were shown at E3.)

At E3 all that was shown of Killzone was the infamous CGI trailer.

We know that Guerrilla were still working on Killzone: Liberation until October of 2006. The dev 'Motherh' has even stated in the Killzone 2 blog that pre-production of Killzone 2 only went into full swing after Liberation.

Revised rough timeline:

Alan Wake: 4 years 3 months development (given that it gets a fall 09' launch.)

Killzone 2: 3 years 9 months (although it's probably less.)

Even that's being very generous to Alan Wake and quite strict with the Killzone 2 timeline.

The budgets for the games I know are complete specualtion on your part. Very few games have had confirmed budgets this gen. Do you have any sources for them?

Motherh has also stated that Guerrilla were hiring staff late into the Killzone 2 development cycle. Can I have a source for the number of Remedy Entertainment employees?

I dun't get it doesnt look wauwish to me.. the picture of the air plane reminds me of Home red bull air race XD

and the rest just pops up with fallout 3 and lord of the rings lol

but then again my eyes might be retarded lol

Amazing screenshots that's how it will look on high end pc :) (they even stated in interviews that all screenshots before has been taken at full hd with maxed aa,af settings and then downsized to 720p)

But it probably won't be commercial success in the same way as both Max Paynes did.

Surely you all realize those shots have probably been taken on the PC? Anyway, looking good so far. I wouldn't exactly call it CGI quality and it has its drawbacks graphics-wise but still excellent.

Huge? I don't know. Could be, but it isn't know very well yet. They must really hype it a lot more when they get closer to release to have good sales. Of course 'good' is pretty relative so it's hard to define. It certainly won't have bad sales, though.
