Forums - Nintendo - I'm really excited about Wii in 2009! What expectations do you guys have?

I think that if the Wii does not start getting some serious hardcore gamer support this year, specifically getting those multi-platform games that are HD only, the Wii can never truly be the winner of this generation.

What I mean is that Wii needs games like Dead Space and Fallout 3 and Left4Dead and Far Cry etc.

MadWorld and Conduit are nice, but so far the Wii has only gotten the big franchise multiplatform games (like Madden, Need For Speed, etc). We need more games!

As for first-party game predictions, I'm going to say the big games that come out this year will include:

Punch-Out!! (no kidding)

Sin and Punishment 2

Kid Icarus (as long as Factor 5 is alive)
Pikmin 3
Mario Tennis or Golf or some other sport game that uses MotionPlus

Zelda or Mario might see an announcement at E3 or Nintendo's own conference, but I strongly believe that neither will come out this year.

# of games above 75 on Metacritic (including downloadable):

360: 241     DS: 144

PS3: 152     PSP: 126

Wii: 85

Do not expect Zelda this year, it goes to 2010 for sure. Pikmin 3 is a given this holiday season, but I have never played that franchise. I am not really interested in Punch Out, but I am lookin' forward to titles like Fragile, The Conduit, MadWorld and Fatal Frame 4. This year is gonna be better than the last one ( in fact, is imposible than anything in the world may be worse than Wii 2008 lineup ).

If Zelda came out in 2010 it would be the longest wait between Zelda games since the gap between Link's Awakening and Ocarina of Time. no saying it's impossible, but.... man, I don't want to wait that long.

What do I expect out the Wii this year? A lot of things. First, I expect Little King's Story and Muramasa: The Demon Blade to be awesome.

House of the dead overkill, deadly creatures, fragile, Monster hunter 3, demon blade, sin and punishment 2, punch out, and the conduit are some of the titles I'm looking forward too.

Also I'd say there is a chance for super mario galaxy 2 to launch this holiday, which would be perfect. Also new zelda, icarus, and pikmin are all great possibilities for E3, or another big event.

Support good third party games on wii. Buy games like house of the dead overkill, de blob, madworld, the conduit and boom blox.

agreed on Zelda.  You've gotta play Pikmin, twas the best new ip on gamecube imo, and one of the top 3 games I've played on gamecube last gen, it's amazing!

I still haven't played part 2 so I'll probably get that when it's rerealeased. I'm pysched!  STOKED!

While you wait for Pikmin 2 and 3, might I suggest a certain game to tide you over?

Wtf? Why!? Theres no need for those games on Wii. If I was a multi console owner there would be no reason for me to buy those on Wii.

What Wii needs is more original games. New IP or its own game in a series. (GTA Wii....or something like that)

OT: This year is going to be epic for Wii. Already 17 games i want. Though I think some of the Japanese games wont make it here. I also expect Zelda Wii this year no matter what anyone says.

It could be the first year to justify itself to "hardcore" gamers.

Nintendo showed the way last yr. S+P2 pretty much solidified their promise to ensure the Wii would be pushing core games for the next 12 months or longer. Sega have joined in

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Again, do not expect Mario or Zelda to launch this year, it is too soon (yes, even for Zelda, it still hasn't been showed in any event). I know that in 2009 makes 3 years since twilight princess, but I don't really thing Nintendo is going to launch such a big tittle without showing it to the public in the previous year, they need to create a bit of hype for the game the same than they did with Super Smash Bros (oh, well, maybe not that much ). I expect to see the first trailer of Zelda this E3.
