Halo Wars will probably sell more.

Why? It has the name "Halo" in it. Even people that don't care about RTS games want it because "Halo" is in the title. In America, anything with "Halo" sells. Just like "Final Fantasy" or "Dragon Quest" in Japan.

Some of the FF and DQ spinoff were not really that well receive in Japan were they? (Dirge of Cerberus and DQ Swords came to mind) I think you give too much credit to a brand name outside its area of expertise. Sometimes it might work (Dissidia) and sometimes it might not. Given that console RTS can rightfully be considered semi-niche, I think there is a good chance that Halo Wars' sale (despite its brand  name and pedigree), might not be as stellar as the 'Halo' name might imagine.

DoC and DQS both did over 500k in Japan.  For what they were (absolute crap as rated by most gamers), that's quite a bit on brand name alone.  Japan has 127 mil. population while NA is around 340 mil.  You can do the math.

First week, I expect 500k WW for KZ2 (may have better legs if reception is good) and 1 mil. for Halo Wars.  The big problem is Sony never hypes their games enough to people outside the internet or fanboy community.  Microsoft knows how to hype their games so that the average person on the street will know the game.

Yes they were crap game which probably contributed, and the fact that Halo Wars will probably be a damn good game will also contribute. However I believe that their is a finite community who are actually interested in console RTS and once that audience has dried up, all that Halo Wars has going for it is a brand and while it will move number, it won't move the number neccessary to beat an anticipated FPS that is 1) a system exclusive, 2) will have good word of mouth 3) will have amazing graphic to attract newcomers.

Oddly, I pretty much agree on your initial sales estimate of both game, I'd push KZ2 a little though (probably 600k). However I think Halo Wars will have similiar sale pattern to Fable 2 (significant first week -especially in NA- with sharp drop from the second week onward) while KZ2 will catchup sometime thereafter as one of those premiere PS3 title that everyone will recommend and get if for no other reason that its eye candy.

If command and conquer can sell half a million on the xbox then halo wars with a superior brand name, better marketing and better RTS developers should be able to sell at least 3 million copies. Killzone should do very well and either equal halo wars or surpass it slightly.

Halo wars gonna sell more but KZ2 gonna be a better game...

I supspect Halo Wars will sell 2 million before anyone even realizes its not a FPS.

I'll stand by my prediction:

Halo Wars: Bigger 1st week
Killzone 2: Bigger LTD

And that's only because the average Halo buyer will think Halo Wars is an FPS and he's gonna "PWN 7H053 N008Z0R5 4ND FR46 W17H H34D5H075!!!"... Hardcore Halo fans will buy the game blindly, and RTS fans that want to see a good console RTS (and that includes controls) will buy this game if it is good (I myself love RTSs and i hope this game is good, because i like Ensemble Studios and i would like to see good controls on a console RTS)...

I think the real question is, can KZ2 best COD IV?

Call of Duty IV was the first and only AAA multiplayer shooter on the PS3 until Killzone 2. They are directly comparable to each other.

COD IV sold 4 Million to date on the PS3.
COD 5 will have sold 3 Million to date on the PS3

Killzone 2 will sell more? Less? About the same as this maquee franchise?

Tease.

You guys have some seriously high expectations of a console RTS. I believe it will sell 350k ww first week regardless of the Halo name.

I hope Halo Wars outsells Kill Zone 2. But I have a sickening feeling Kill Zone 2 will outsell Halo Wars.

I don't see how it can fail to. Something will have gone horribly wrong for Sony if their most hyped and advertised game of this generation fails to outsell a console RTS, Halo or not.
