i agree with the original list except for gamecube. well i partially agree with that. it was a bad choice to make it look like a toy rather than a serious piece of electronics. and the mini-disc format was a little silly, why not just have full dvd's to have 3 times as much space?
but the gamecube controller is the best feeling classic controller ever. nintendo has always been the innovator in controller design and gamecube was no different. way better ergonomically than the sony and microsoft controllers. it had an odd button layout but the only button that was a little awkward to hit was the z button, while even on xbox's small controllers the white and black buttons were awkward and the sony controller, well the problem with that is its decent, but thats it. it was decent when it came out but the n64 controller felt way better to play with and sony hasn't changed the controller at all except to add a couple built-in features two generations later.
i'd say the main problem with the gamecube was that other than elevating the quality of video game controllers as they do every generation they didn't make any other innovations. snes i guess didn't have much innovation outside of the controller but it had the most ridiculously amazing game library ever. n64 innovated with the controller, rumble, analog stick, 4 controller slots built it, and nintendo showed off how 3d games were meant to be played with mario and zelda. but then gamecube, all it did was once again make the best controller. it finally made discs their format but still were behind in that cuz they were mini-discs. didn't have a dedicated online system, didn't have any hugely innovative games like n64 had, still great library of games but didn't do anything special. then with wii they innovate the controller again but in a huge way and it becomes the main innovation and with that whole new gaming experiences are now possible. they are still lagging behind in storage space, format size, and online, and for the first time they are lagging behind in graphics but thats not as important these days.
anyway, i think the worst decision was to stick with cartridges for n64 cuz that turned third parties against them and into sony's camp which led to two generations of getting crushed.
