Forums - Gaming - I must say... (Regarding Resident Evil 5)

To start off, I have to say that I absolutely love Resident Evil 4. I also like the older Resident Evil-style, but I felt Resident Evil 4 was a welcome innovation, probably partly because it was my first Resident Evil-game. Naturally, once I started getting into the series a bit more, the prospect of Resident Evil 5 really got me hyped up.

Sadly, that hype has begun to wear off. When I heard about the co-op part at E3, I was a bit skeptical. I feared that this was going to either feel extremely tacked on, or simply remove the little surival-horror value RE4 still had (which really wasn't much at all). After playing the japanese version of the demo, I feel it's both. I really can't explain it, but while playing the demo, Resident Evil 5 felt like little more to me than a poor man's Gears of War. I honestly really want to love this game, but right now I can't.

I'm hoping that the full game will change my mind or, at the very least, I'll be able to appreciate the game despite not personally liking it, but as of right now this game just feels mundane to me. It used to be the title I anticipated the most, now I regret placing my preorder, and am seriously considering canceling it.

Anyone else feel like their hype has gone down for RE5, or am I the only one?

How about you wait for the full game to release? You seriously don't want to skip on this game because it's trying to be a poor man's Gears of War, right?

And what's wrong with Gears of War? What, you guys want more of this:

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

I love all the other RE games, but there's no way in hell I'm even renting this one. I just hate everything I've seen and heard in regards to this game.

Dude, I just said I loved RE4. And there's nothing wrong with Gears of War, but if I want to play Gears of War, I'd rather just play Gears of War instead of a poor man's Gears of War. Wouldn't you? As I said, I hope the full game can sway me, but so far it really doesn't look promising :x

@SHMUP: Jill Sandwhiches are awesome, and I shall brook no dissent.

On topic: I see what you're saying about how having a partner makes the spookiness factor go away (RE0 had the exact same problem), but Resident Evil 4 pretty much away from the "horror" part already, so I don't mind too much. I haven't played the demo, so I can't speak to what other effect co-op has, but I doubt it'll be the factor that ruins the game.

@ Majin:

I know you said you loved Resident Evil 4, but aren't both games using pretty much the same engine? What can they possibly change to make it worse than the best GameCube game this last generation? Shooting on black people and Eminems (seriously, one white dude looks like him)?

Resident Evil 5 will be damn fine. There will be zombies riding motorcycles.

Resident evil 4 was a letdown story wise....

'nope, no more zombies, just crazy village folk!'

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

I feel exactly the same, and I haven't even managed to play the demo.

Until the first half of 2008 RE5 was my most anticipated game this gen. But after the side-kick was revelaed and I've seen the gameplay demo showings, I feel it's a poor mans Gears of war without horror feel.

I hope Im wrong but I believe the best case scenario now is that RE5 will be a good splatter zombie shooter.

What do you think of the graphics when seeing them in motion?

That's what I'm trying to tell myself, and yeah, I noticed the Eminem-dude too, lol :p I just don't know. The demo didn't feel like the Resident Evil 4 I loved at all. I'm not throwing the game to the wolves just yet, but I'm very conflicted.

How the hell is RE5 related to Tales of Symphonia and F-Zero GX again?

=P

OT: IMO, this is going too far off your roots. Why oh why make it so... surprise based scary if scary at all?
