To start off, I have to say that I absolutely love Resident Evil 4. I also like the older Resident Evil-style, but I felt Resident Evil 4 was a welcome innovation, probably partly because it was my first Resident Evil-game. Naturally, once I started getting into the series a bit more, the prospect of Resident Evil 5 really got me hyped up.
Sadly, that hype has begun to wear off. When I heard about the co-op part at E3, I was a bit skeptical. I feared that this was going to either feel extremely tacked on, or simply remove the little surival-horror value RE4 still had (which really wasn't much at all). After playing the japanese version of the demo, I feel it's both. I really can't explain it, but while playing the demo, Resident Evil 5 felt like little more to me than a poor man's Gears of War. I honestly really want to love this game, but right now I can't.
I'm hoping that the full game will change my mind or, at the very least, I'll be able to appreciate the game despite not personally liking it, but as of right now this game just feels mundane to me. It used to be the title I anticipated the most, now I regret placing my preorder, and am seriously considering canceling it.
Anyone else feel like their hype has gone down for RE5, or am I the only one?
