Beautiful pictures as always MM.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Is the multiplayer really good?...

I'm getting a bit concerned about some of the words in quite a few of the reviews regarding the repetitive nature of the campaign.

Luckily I am a self confessed graphics/audio whore so I will still love the campaign, but I usually like to play through more than once....I hope I will want to.

From the only (major) review that has thus far given it under a 9:

http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/launchreview.asp?reviewid=989085

Killzone 2 is quite possibly the best multiplayer shooter I’ve ever played, definitely on par with Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 and Gears of War. Thanks to its unique mission-based rounds, fantastic stat tracking, persistent unlockables and overall fun-ness, Killzone 2 is definitely going to be played by PS3 owners for years to come.

[...]

On top of all that, there’s an intricate clan system, tournament system and a website dedicated to tracking it all. No shooter has provided this level of community features and there’s little question that this sort of support will ensure a strong following, at least until Killzone 3 comes out.

[...]

Killzone 2 is a tale of two cities. There’s the campaign, which is a fine but forgettable jaunt through a series of FPS clichés. And then there’s the multiplayer, which is a slick, addictive experience that’s not to be missed. In the end it just depends on what you’re looking for.

They gave it an 8.5 despite all that. o_0

And you can also read my preview to see how much I enjoyed the multiplayer:

I hope that with this game, people no longer doubt the awesomeness of Sony's internal studios. =/

All of Sony's internal developers are at the forefront of game design. With Killzone, Sony saw what Guerrilla wanted to do, and what they had the potential to do given the means, so the purchase was made, and thus we have Killzone 2. Sony has a great eye when buying studios. When signing second party contracts, however, they're a bit more liberal. You can doubt any second party titles all you want, lol.

And I hope people believe me when I say something is good. I usually don't spout hyperbolic BS. ;)

So I just got around to reading the Wired review. This line was awesome:

Battles can start to feel like puzzles -- but the enemies are reacting to your actions, and not simply going through the motions. This becomes especially clear once you've been forced to restart a particular scene a few times, and you notice that enemies aren't acting the same way. If you're the type of shooter fan that loathes being forced into a particular style of play when all you want to do is shoot stuff on foot, Killzone will rarely disappoint you.

Kotaku's impressions of the singleplayer are up, they're holding off on a full review until they can check out multiplayer. They're probably waiting for it to be packed with people who just brought home the game.

*edit* Yea, they're waiting until the game comes out so they can give better thoughts of the multiplayer

"Online could only be played in matches set up through Sony using specific settings on a handful of days. Not that unusual, but I'd rather spend more time with it than base my opinions on such limited play."

Well I would think the massive investement in the game has had something do with the eventual outcome.. not just Guerilla's expertise...

But SCE are certainly great studios and seem to be improving!

Reminds me of hearing "budget doesn't equal a great game. I could throw tons of money at something and still get crap". Now it's "Well, it had a big budget so obviously it would turn out like this".

Now, I do agree that you'll need the right talent to properly use all that money, but I'm just remembering some arguments against the game over the past few years.

What I am saying is that the large budget and help from other Sony studios has been what has allowed them to make such a great game. Though they have to be talented developers, not as good as someone like Insomniac, who can make a game every year with a similar sized studio. It was not like they were a great studio that nobody noticed, they needed quite a lot of help to make this game, but lets hope it is a good long term investement
