It will be interesting to see how things go. Sony is in such a tough spot finacilaiiy that a price cut is nearly impossible. I expect Sony to try and go with MS's 3 sku stratagy to counter losses if PS3 sales are felt to be to low by the company. We disscussed this in another thread;

80GB - $299 (basic model, mabye remove Wifi/internal PS)
160GB - $399 (HDMI, Headset)
250GB - $499 (HDMI, Headset, BR Remote, First Party Game)

This would give Sony a chance to sell around 40% of units at break even to profit, while 60% or so would sell at a loss. If Sony goes in this direction, I think they could get away with a pricfe cut, and potentialy gain back a little ground on Microsoft. With this stratagy they could stay close to were they are right now in the hardware profits/depisits, while raising SW sales to a profitable income.

MS would just drop the price of the 360 and an 129$-149$ arcade 360 would bury a 299$ ps3 .Oh i forgot that Pachter is against price drops when it comes to the 360 !!!!!!

Well, of course a $299 PS3 will outsell a $199 X360. A $399 PS3 outsold a $299 360, right? And in this recession, a lot more people are willing to buy a 300 buck console than a 400 buck console.

No, I think that goes without saying. What remains to be seen is WHEN Sony cuts the price.

The problem is that a $200 Xbox 360 is also selling equally and combined they double the sales of said $400 PS3.

So which is it? Is there a cut or isn't there? If the guy even took the time to look into Sony's financial information he would know they are up "Shit Creek" without a paddle. If there is a cut it will not be until near the end of 09 and then I wouldn't expect it to be $100. Probably more like $50 and a new game, maybe KZ2. This doesn't mean Sony is doomed or anything like that. It would be a good thing for Sony to sit back and collect some of that added money they are receiving. They simply cannot continue losing money, it will end the entire company if they do.
