Forums - Sales - So why did MK vs DC beat LBP?

I find it funny that Stickball will use Vgchartz numbers when it suits his point, but throws them out the window when it suits another. I don't mean to be a dick, but the hypocrisy is crazy.

Could you explain to me when I am, or am not using VGC numbers to prove a point?

I've always used external numbers, such as Famitsu, MC or NPD first since they aggregate for a living. But when that said number isn't available, I use VGC. If you'd like to show me where I'm not doing that, feel free to.

@Torillian, then I guess I'm wrong about the 1.3m shipped, and I apologize. I thought that it was shipped, but if 1.3m is indeed played, then I guess I can't debate that, can I? Either way, that doesn't change the fact that VGC was tragically off on MKvsDCU, and may be off on LBP in the process - unless VGC wants to increase the MKvsDCU numbers for the 360 by a high amount, too. I guess that could be a plausible argument too - that MKvsDCU just happened to be undertracked alltogether.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

umm.. to answer that question... so why did BEER beat wine in sales?

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

I got this one.

It's because there are more people out there who want to play MK vs DC than there are that want to play LBP.

Feel free to call me Captain Obvious!

You're wrong. It's because only one of those two games has this man in it (out of the box, anyways).

but the thing is

I didn't think ANYONE cared about Mortal Kombat anymore

Series like Mortal Kombat and Sonic that tried really hard to be "Cool" in the early 90s ended up aging pretty poorly, but there is still a ton of people who have very fond memories of these games. When there is a crossover with another series that has amazing popularity (Mario because of the DS/Wii’s popularity, DC Universe because of recent success with Superman and Batman movies) this adds a new found relevance to these series and their old fanbase becomes interested.

ok

but surely you mean Spider-Man.....superman returns was a flop commercially....lol

Oh jeez. Spider-man = Marvel. X_x Though I love Marvel, I'd rather spend the rest of my life watching Superman Returns then the last Spider-Man movie. bleh. Venom died within 5 minutes of being on the screen. WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT SHIT?

ohhhhhhhh......so thats why people at school lol'd at me when I said that

BTW I agree....Venom was such a great villain in the tv series n comics....they RUINED him....he deserved a whole movie with him as the main villain character......but I am talking commercially

commercially SPider-Man 3 surpassed even Spider-man 2....Superman Returns was a big flop

Actually, not really. :/ It broke the first day sales and the weekend sales (which were then overthrown by the dark knight last year) but overall, it's still the least popular of the franchise.

Also, it makes it sound even more unimpressive when you hold in account that the average ticket price in 2007 was $6.88. That means that people were paying more money per visit to see Spider-Man 3 than Spider-Man 2 ($6.21) and Spiderman ($5.81).

Sorry, that I worked at a theater that summer and so I was annoyed at the movie.

actually no your wrong

lower down on the page you see this

Worldwide Gross $890,871,626 $783,766,341 $821,708,551

basically SPider-Man 3 made the MOST MONEY on a Worldwide level.....so actually I was wrong spidey 3 did beat SPider-man 1 as well in terms of making money

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

To be fair about the Spiderman argument -

Spiderman 3 had the highest foreign gross which *seems* good, but due to publisher rights, most likely made less money for the studio that made Spiderman 3. Throw in a 20% higher budget, and it most likely *made* the least.

But that's not to say that it didn't make money. All 3 were highly profitable, which is why we may get a 4th one.

Well this has gone incredibly off topic.

I believe it's been confirmed that we are getting a fourth one.

Subtract the production costs. ;)

Spider-man 3 -  632,871,626
Spider-man 2 - 583,766,341
Spider-man - 682,708,551

ok so I was right originally

I was sure it was more successful than Spider-man 2 in every way

but wasn't sure bout Spider-man 1.

spiderman 3 was a bad disgrace :( not trying to be mean, and not saying it was terrible... but when you compare it to the first two, or other great superhero movies, you just say "wow..."
