Forums - Nintendo - IGN: US DSi Launch Date and Price Rumor

The DSi has not been out for 6 months? It hasn't even been announced that long. It was announced on October 2nd and released November 1st.

I think April is too early and $180 is too much. Looks like I will have to wait a while before I get a 2nd DS to go with my DS Phat, which now has like a 3 hour battery life with DS games, 4 hour with GBA games.

I don't think its really that early.. I mean the DSi has been out for 6 months in Japan and the DS dropped 91% in America this week so maybe they're wise to release it soon.

I thought it was because of supply constraints, not dips in demand. Or are we not sure?

Quoting The Source:

"While sales from the previous week are down sharply with the holiday season now over, year over year sales show a continued rise in hardware sales despite a shortage in DS availability this week."

20$ and u can get a 360$

Good luck fitting that in your pocket. Wouldn't the PSP be a better comparison? Isn't it $200?

Actually it's $169.

And this announcement solidifies my position on totally avoided the DSi. I'll buy a DSL now instead.

Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

Thanks famousringo!

This is not an announcement, it is a Rumor as said in the topic title.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is $180 at launch but they better drop that quickly or bundle it with something, Nintendogs is good enough but Mario would be better.

$150 looks like a nice number and a good $20 more then DSL which is a good premium price for an advanced verison. They should focus on DSiWare sells, people need DSi to get that store, that is going to bring in lots of money for them. Imagine Wii VC games on there too, playing OoT on DSi would be awesome.

I can't see why they won't release it sooner rather than later as it isn't a direct replacement for the DS Lite, they are going to be selling both.

I went for the DSL rather than wait for DSi. It's all about tradeoffs.

DSL gets you access to the GBA library, compatibility with certain peripherals, better battery life, easy access to homebrew with flash carts if you like, and you save $50.

DSi gets you cameras, better internet functionality (tempting), a second touch screen (is there any software support for it yet?), more multimedia functionality, access to DSiWare library, and an SD slot.

The clincher for me was that the GBA library is way cooler than DSiWare (for now at least) and I don't have to wait to buy my DS. :3

There is no second touchscreen.

Anyway, I live in the UK, but when the DSi is released it really depends on what the online offers.

Of course chances are Pokemon Platinum will be released here before the DSi, so I'll probably just get a Lite anyway.

Right you are. I must have been reading an over-excited preview when I picked that up. I'll go edit that list.

I'll wait to hear that from Nintendo.

Not at 180 bucks though.

<_< Too expensive.

I have a feeling that the consumer will end up disagreeing with you.

I hope it's cheaper than that because I need to replace my Lite and am holding out for a DSi, but it will sell at that point.

Me too, my DS Lite hinge crack is getting bigger every day, not good.

Shell replacement baby.  Only $20 (and a lot of aggravation), but better for your hand eye coordination than a game of New Super Mario Bros.

Release date sounds plausible, but that price is ridiculous. If it does launch at that price I seriously doubt it will sell.
