I believe the number of PS2s (worldwide) has increased by about 23-24 million worldwide since the XBox360s release. I don't think VGChartz data actually goes back that far (with hardware), and I don't know for certain.

And what does this have to do with anything?

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

what made them adjust the numbers? there hasnt been any new offical data released has their?

I'd imagine the official ChartTrack numbers that came out today for the U.K. had something to do with the adjustment.

I was responding to a question about it, and frankly, its a statement about how much day-to-day new marketshare Sony actually commands -- its pretty much on par with Nintendo's, until only very recently.  The PS2 is still a serious competitor, and can't be discounted until Sony discontinues it.

To the contrary (of discontinuing it), they released a new slimline last year in Japan (and a couple months back in the EU/US) which has an internal power supply, and a further parts reduction.  It's still goin' strong -- Sony has 3 players on the field, not 1( MS), or 2 (Nintendo).  If your aim is to analyze marketshare, rather than cheer on your favorite "modern" console, this is pretty important.

The only problem I have with that logic Maynard is when idiots claim that Sony has only 21% console marketshare. If you only count next gen numbers sure. But if you add PS2 since the launch of the 360 + PS3 sales it paints a different picture entirely.

On Topic: Yay the PS3 was adjusted up the most. I wonder if any software was adjusted on any platform?

 Wow LOL

Nobody said Sony has 21% console marketshare but the PS3 does have 21% console marketshare.

In EU? Not really. There are a lot of wii's and ds's sitting on the shelves.

What is confusing about my post?

Which generation a console "comes from" is an abstraction.  Its meaningless in the household, and especially in "this generation", where the venerable PS2 still manages to compete.  Ignoring it is... like turning a blind eye to the facts that it does exist, and that it still sells (quite well), and thus presents signifigant competition.

You could consider the original PS2 as being the "high-end" of the 6th console generation, from Sony, and the slimline PS2 the "low-end" of the 7th generation (from Sony)... but its not considered that way... and for no good reason.  Drawing arbitrary lines with the "generation" concept doesn't help us evaluate the market.  Excluding the PS2 from the front page is a serious flaw in this site's presentation, IMO.  Comparing the other 3 numbers, and not including consoles which are still in production only truly satisfies the fanboys.

Fanboy like you judging by your prediction... Also GBA sold really well in 2006 and even early 2007 and its sales wasnt on the front page.
