Okay, people say "the Wii has to be supply constrained". Let's check it out.

HW so far (LT) =

7.67 Japan = 16.7%

17.04 Others = 37.1%

21.12 Americas = 46.8%

But, as Japan is slowing down a bit, Others should be a tad higher.

So, how much can we expect it to sell in Others on a weekly basis?

Well, supply = 2.4M/month.

But, ~ 200K of that goes to stockpiling.

So ~ 2.2M/month.

That is 507K/week

37% of 507K is 188K

The Wii sold 183K this week.

So I will have to say no, the Wii isn't particulary supply constrained. This is the level we can expect it to sell at this year.

Dunno if anyone else posted it but these are the sales from this week last year

Wii - 82k last year, 183k this year. Which means Wii is UP 101k. Awesome.

PS3 - 107k last year, 98k this year. Which means PS3 is DOWN 9k. Not too bad.

360 - 72k last year, 142k this year. Which means 360 is UP 70k. Awesome.

So good sales for the Wii and 360, both posting pretty much 100% increase on this time last year. PS3 is down but only by 9k, that is not a lot. But we now move into a lot lower sales period where in a few weeks 9k will be seen as a lot.

Interesting to see the PS2 sales almost matching PS3 sales. PS2 was awesome.

In other words, Wii actually is selling better in relation to its competitors in Others this week compared to last year?

Yes, but it has also been trending like this.

Q1 08: 41.7%

Q2 08: 49.2%

Q3 08: 52.9%

Q4 08: 51.4%

So as you see, it is now going around 50% market share (but expect ~ 47% for January) in Others, while it was before 08 skipping around 40%.

I'm to lazy to double check those number, but they seem interesting enough

What's to double check?

The Japan, Others and Americas are from the front page.

The supply is 2.4M, we know that.

200K stockpiling is an estimate, it is certainly around there somewhere (at least 150K..)

2.2*12/52=507

507*0.37=187.xx ~ 188K.

Hope the numbers are right. This is a great way to start the new year. PS3 + 360 > Wii. If this continues, and Sony and MS indeed drop the prices of both systems at some point this year then Nintendo may be forced to drop the price of the Wii. I just don't see it possible for Nintendo to reach 50% market share with;

360

Arcade - $179
Pro - $249
Elite -$349

PS3

80GB -$299
160GB -$399

Hopefully Sony and MS will hit these prices, and I think the times Pachter stated are very possible. The most important thing for Sony will be making sure that they have a PS3 on the market that they are making money off of. That is why I put the 160GB still on the market. This stratagy may be the best path they can take in the future, and I don't know why it has not been brought up in PS3 price drop arguments.

It's funny how your sig is against a PS3 price drop.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

i wonder what microsoft think of there sales? i think they expected alot more! the price in UK is 129.99 for gods sake! also anyone here from the UK? during all of november and december how many 360 ads did you see per day? i saw about 15-20 A DAY! also every single 3rd party game had exclusive 360 advertsing! microsoft really went in to over drive mode last year.

Great numbers for 360 and Wii.

Solid numbers as well for a "DOOMED" console.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

I think stockpiling is higher than that, last I checked they stockpile approximately 25% of production in the January-October period (giving 6 million additional Wiis for the holiday besides normal production).
