Forums - Sales - Sony: 50 million PS2s sold in North America

^ xbox stop production completely in '05 or '06 so no... new xboxes arent sold. and the gamecube would have less than a percent market share... so there would be no point

How on earth does VGChartz (not its community, just ignore the forums) ignore the Ps2? Where do you want it to be added?

It is on the worldwide (all of them) weekly page, on an equal basis as any other system.

The market share in the Other HW has Ps2 included (weekly market share)

It is lacking from the front page, because that is where they track total market share.

The only place I see the Ps2 being needed, is in the "HW ending 3rd January 2009" section. It doesn't have the Ps2. Still, there's almost certainly a reason for that (and I guess that is that ioi gets less data for it).

You just don't get the whole "marketshare" concept, do you?

The PS2's numbers are shockingly high since the release of the XBox360. If VGC has avoided putting the PS2 up there due to its dominance of the last generation, put up its numbers since the "beginning" of the current generation (X360 release), and lets watch how it continues to compare.

It IS still in production, and it IS still a serious competitor, no matter when it was first manufactured.  Excluding it moves the site away from actual market analysis, and more toward fanboy wars.  Yes, it is "dying", but not so much that it can be discounted from competition, especially in terms of software.

 How would you count the market share then?

Ps2 =  130M = 58%

Wii = 46M = 20.5%

X360 = 28M = 12.5%

Ps3 = 20M = 9%

And that is what is displayed on the front page. Overall market share.

It has no place there.

Indeed.

The PS2 isn't being ignored. It's in every single weekly update, with a spot on the weekly pie chart showing overall hardware market share for that week. PS2 titles still show in the top 200, sometimes even bursting into the top ten.

That being said, the PS2 is old news. There's nothing remarkable about a dominant console having an extended lifespan. People are more interested in how this generation will turn out then they are in how long the last generation can hold on. There's nothing dramatic in watching a monarch who has already vanquished all his foes grow old and die off.

ok ok.... w/e.

Ps2= 6th generation

X360,ps3 & Wii= 7th generation.

no matter how much you scream for it, they don't belong together. Therefore, ps2 will never be in the front page sharing market share with the X360,ps3 & Wii.

end of Story =) a side of that again.... Ps2, amazing console. Winner of the 6th generation. It's time has passed. Time to realize we are in the 7th generation (=

i think the PS2 should be on the front page as well.....it is still in production and is selling extremely well.....

I think it is you who is missing the point.

The front page bars show generational marketshare... this is very different from time based marketshare.... If you were to use only PS2 sales from a certain point then that is time based, and as such all other consoles have to be put to that same time base.

So for instance, if you were to have PS2 marketshare using sals from the Wii's launch... you would also have to take out any sales of the X360 from before then, as well as the 2 weeks PS3 had in Japan before then, which is confusing to those who are wishing to compare the current generation consoles.

The PS2 should not be included in the 7th generational marketshare because it is a 6th gen console.
And changing the marketshare to time based confuses things because people want to compare the 3 current consoles.

The PS2 should not be put into those bars.... but yes, it should be put into the "weekly hardware" box, because it still sells after all.

I try not to bring up the Wii in those HD console war threads. It's definitely a similar situation, where Wii and especially DS sales get less remarkable all the time, but the difference is that the PS3, 360 and PSP aren't dead yet.

VGC within 1 % - incredibly accurate!

This plus the recent UK data accuracy must show VG as a very very credible source for sales info now.

So all those (mainly pro sony) sites that wont hear of VG chartz should think again

the numbers are adjusted alot thats why.
