The PS2's numbers are shockingly high since the release of the XBox360. If VGC has avoided putting the PS2 up there due to its dominance of the last generation, put up its numbers since the "beginning" of the current generation (X360 release), and lets watch how it continues to compare.

It IS still in production, and it IS still a serious competitor, no matter when it was first manufactured.  Excluding it moves the site away from actual market analysis, and more toward fanboy wars.  Yes, it is "dying", but not so much that it can be discounted from competition, especially in terms of software.

 How would you count the market share then?

Ps2 =  130M = 58%

Wii = 46M = 20.5%

X360 = 28M = 12.5%

Ps3 = 20M = 9%

And that is what is displayed on the front page. Overall market share.

It has no place there.

Indeed.

The PS2 isn't being ignored. It's in every single weekly update, with a spot on the weekly pie chart showing overall hardware market share for that week.

That being said, the PS2 is old news. There's nothing remarkable about a dominant console having an extended lifespan. People are more interested in how this generation will turn out then they are in how long the last generation can hold on. There's nothing dramatic in watching a monarch who has already vanquished all his foes grow old and die off.

canm I quote yu everytime someone mentions the wii in 360/ps3 convo?
