Ratchet and Clank is a big reccomendation and I also think you'll like Prince of Persia.

1) The rumour was started by PS3 fanboys who think Sony can get back on top. Not likely at all until Christmas at least.

2) There are very few 'Nintendo-type' games on PS3. Most have a darker, serious tone. If you want to get into that kind of gaming, I'd recommend:

 

  • GTA4
  • Fallout 3
  • COD 4
  • Resistance 2
  • Mirror's Edge
  • Prince of Persia
  • Ratchet and Clank Future
  • MGS4 (you may not like this as it is very hard to understand without playing previous games. Worth playing though)
  • Bioshock
  • Orange Box (Bit laggy on PS3, but you CANNOT miss these games. Best gaming experience of my life)
  • Dead Space
  • Whatever sports games you enjoy
PSN:
  • Stardust HD
  • Wipeout HD
  • Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix
  • Warhawk
  • GT5 Prologue
  • Crash Commando
That's a good start. Just look at videos first to see if you'll like them. There's plenty more great games to choose from if you don't.

Alright here's what you have to do

1) Don't get Motorstorm 2. I suggest Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

2) The blu-rays you should get is Hancock,The Dark Knight, and Transformers

3) I think you should wait a little bit after the end of the fiscal year. That ends on April 1. I think a couple of weeks after that, Sony will probably drop the price of the ps3.

4) While you are waiting, by a used game that will last as long as April.

I suggest checking out the two Ratchet and Clank games and Prince of Persia.

As for Blu-ray what about The Simpsons Movie, Pixar films, and The Matrix (it's shit, but I'm guessing it looks good in HD).

Judging by your Wii library, I think you'd like:

PixelJunk Monsters (co-op tower defense, very fun with another person)
PixelJunk Eden (stylized 2d platformer. challanging and a great value)
Resident Evil 5
Folklore
