I think it's hard to define, it seems to have elements of RPG and action adventure. However it's definitely not just gonna be just another shooter. The impression i have got is that the story pulls you through the game and is fantastic and theres a point where it you'll be left astounded (one reviewer suggested that irrational should have the players webcam activate at this time to catch the reaction).

My biggest worry is coming across a spoiler that ruins this for me now that some people have their hands on it.

Something like Halo or gears is just a shooter, this is something that does something quite different and by the sounds of it pulls it off.

Yeah, it definitely sounds good & more interesting to me than any other "shooter" out there. Gears, for example, looked so generic to me when I finally saw it at a friend's house, I couldn't believe it considering the hype it had got. I didn't play it myself though because I know I'd suck so hard at playing FPS games. When I visit said friend again, I'm sure he'll already have bought Bioshock, and I'll give it a try. But heavy amounts of shooting in a game tends to scare me off.

Wow are you serious? Sounds like crazy numbers. I guess you are going by preorder figures?


Halo 2 sold 2.4 million units in the first 24 hours of its release!. So i think Halo 3 will top this, with around 3 million (maybe more?) units in the first 24 hours.

Many other years Bioshock would get game of the year but this year the competition is going to be incredibly fierce and it may not even rank in the top three as far as review scores go (pretty incredible when you look at the review scores it's getting so far but when you consider heavy hitters like Super Mario Galaxy it may happen). Even with GTAIV getting delayed this is still one of the strongest years for gaming in awhile.

The man who demanded that I play Condemned "right now" isn't going to buy Bioshock, a game that looks to outdo Condemned (a great game in its own right) in every way?

Mr. Stick... just download the demo and check it out for the graphics if nothing else. The Unreal engine is pretty damn amazing.
