Forums - Sales - Do unemployed people buy consoles?

I'm not denying that unemployed people or people with huge unpaid overdue student loans buy consoles because they do, I just can't see the reasoning behind that. If you absolutely must entertain yourself you can get an awesome book for $1 if you look in the right places and they last as long or longer than games.

Things like that confuse me just as much as people that bitch about not having money yet they smoke.

I disagree here regarding the book.  The right GAME, and the emphasis is on GAME (not interactive fiction) could be replayed far longer than a book.  Unless the book is some reference guide to do things, then a game can provide greater longevity.

I bought my NES, PS2, Dreamcast, and Genesis myself and I don't have a stable job.

I'm unemployed and spend thousands a year on gaming. Unemployed people DO play games, believe it or not.

With the exception of a few games, books generally provide longer entertainment that games and there are of course the books that I've read over and over.

Also, going back to the $1 a book or even $5 at a place like Half Price Books, I could get 20 books for the price of one game.  Do you really want to pretend any game is going to keep you entertained as long as 20 books?  Sure there are those games like GTAIV that have "endless" play but it isn't endless because you do stop playing eventually.

Yeah, we;re not talking about people under 18 and trust fund babies. Mainly talkiing about people that support themselves and their family.

I thought it was a single book vs a single game.  I can say, YES a single game can provide greater replay value than a single book.  Consider a GAME like chess.  People play this for years, and keep returning to the same game.  Again, I am talking GAME here, not interactive fiction that often gets labelled "games".  GTA4 single player is interactive fiction.  GTA4 multiplayer is a game.  On this, I am not about to go on this crusade of trying to correct people regarding the proper usage of terms, and get people to start saying "interactive fiction" instead of games.

Ok, want to know bang for the buck value, and longevity, it would be this:

1. Real game.

2. Book.

3. Interactive fiction.

God I hate it when people are too full of themselves for their own good.  I would be willing to bet you fit into at least one of the following:

  • You scoff when someone orders a steak
  • You scoff again when they don't finish it
  • You leave or at least think about leaving notes on peoples Hummers to tell them to stop killing the environment
  • You love telling people that independent movies are the only movies that are worth anything.  It doesn't matter if they're terrible, they're saying something!
  • You own a mac

I mean really, a GAME blah blah blah blah.  Just get over yourself.  A game is a game is a game is a game.

They sure play a lot of WoW.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
PC: 10^9
Wii: 10^8

That's probably why they got fired as well :P

That reminds me of this guy who had a really hot girlfriend whom he was neglecting because of WoW. Fortunately for him, the girl stuck around until his addiction ended (which I think happened because of her complaining).
