Well it's a (big) stand alone expansion. I mean the story is about 3-5 hours long. |
Really? I hadn't head that mentioned anywhere.
Still, it can't really be an expansion when you don't have to own Halo 3 to play it.

What about this ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Command_%26_Conquer_3:_Kane%27s_Wrath
On the PC it's a normal expansion and on the 360 it's a stand alone expansion.
So is the 360 version a game and the PC version is not ?
| seece said: Halo franchise is over 25 million sold, Gears now 10 (PC?) By end of this generation if new Gears is out then I expect Gears Franchise to be above 25M and Halo to be 50M (what with Halo Wars, ODST & Chronicals) 75M from two fairly new franchises is nothing to be sniffed at. |
Wars, ODST and Chronicles are going to sell 25 million put together?
I don't think so. The maximum we can expect from ODST is 5 million, Halo Wars is 4 million. We don't actually know anything about Chronicles, but I doubt it will do 16 million. The only way it could pass 50 million is if Halo 4 was released this gen (along with ODST, Wars and Chronicles)
10 million sales is nothing to sniff at. Great sales for a great franchise. I think this new one can do perhaps 8 million LT.
Halo is legendary. I really hope who ever gets to work on this (if its not bungie) does it right and doesn't try to emulate COD or some other shooter.
Gear series while great, I feel will be a fad. The most they can do is squeeze another sequel before sales start to go down. The whole macho "fuck yeah" attitude is on its last legs in my opinion...with Obama coming and all

Please, oh please, oh please take that kind of conversation somewhere else.

Why? its a valid opinion about the Gears franchise...

Because the implication here is that Gears of Wars' popularity doesn't have anything to do with its great story telling (story telling, not story) or its fantastic gameplay or how its cover system is the best in the business or how it really is the current-gen killer app for anything that's not made by Nintendo, but a "yippie ki yay, mother fucker" attitude that you managed to tie into the Bush administration.

How about no?
I love gears of war 1 and 2 btw. Just stating the trends I see happening 5 years down the road.
Do you really think that somehow tying in the popularity of Gears of War to the Bush administration (and its abysmal popularity, mind) is fair, sensible, or even topical? Really?

It wont stop me from buying it for sure. But I forsee that once the troops are pulled, balls out war and everything associated with that is not going to be popular with the masses. This is all I am saying... It will still sell millions, but I think it will trend down compared to its prequels.
Gears is a fantastic game
