Forums - Sony - Kaz says Little Big Planet sold 1.3 million-- oh noes! Did I win my bet?

So we're done throwing VGC under the bus now at the first sign of being incorrect?

Like I said earlier, the 1.3 million players means nothing to sales, since it's inconclusive. There are lots of variables. If you have a PSN account, and you borrowed, stole, or bought a used copy of a game, you count as a unique user. On the other hand, if you bought the game, and don't have a PSN account, or internet access, then you don't count.

So, the 1.3 million number means absolutely nothing to the number of units sold, like I said explicitly earlier in the thread.

It's a shame that VGC had to get thrown under the bus, so the LittleBigAgenda could keep on going in the community. Like I said before, people will never accept that LBP is a success. Look at how people like Maynard tool were frothing at the mouth to post how it was overtracked, and got pwned. It's really a sad day that we can't be happy that a game is doing good. I feel very sad for the people that won't accept it.

The topic had almost - so very almost - slid off of my "Forum Posts" quick list. Then you had to say something ridiculous twice in a row. I was just going to ignore the first one!

Yes, I was apparently wrong here - I'm nont going to apologize for being wrong, however, because my reasons for assuming what I did were sound (Gamespot edited their blog, Kotaku reported after the fact, what have you). That my sources turned out incorrect is incidental to the spirit of the argument I was making, which was still sound.

I'll admit that there's apparently some bias against the title running around here, but it's unfair to the point of outrageousness to unfairly characterize everyone who took the reports of Hirai's statements at face value as some kind of LBP basher. That's ridiculous. VGChartz wasn't getting thrown under the bus - Brett's estimates have been off-base before. It's just the reality of the business. Yes, it was pretty large insofar as that goes, but in a holiday month it was well within the realm of possibility.

There's a fine line between being right, between saying that you are right, and in one moment rubbing everyone's faces in your correctness and in the other decrying everyone but you as some kind of rabid hater.

Uncool, man. Dreadfully uncool.

Not to mention being right... when your entire basis for thinking your right is wrong.

This is rediculous. It's funny to me how people are screaming how sony fans spin everything and are trying to cover their own asses when at least half of this thread is Xbox fans screaming how LBP is overtracked, a flop, and how wrong vgchartz is. I'll tell you right now, that the sony fans aren't the only ones throwing crap around in this thread. Xbox fans have already attacked this game every chance they've gotten and this thread would not have gotten to 13 pages without people on both sides fanning the flames of war. All I know is that when there was good evidence for games such as GeOW 1 and 2 being overtracked just a month or two ago a thread about that was dismissed quickly and ended at a page or two and just look at this. It's epic failure on both sides. Sickening. Shut up all of you and just go play games, we are gamers! I think this has gone on long enough with obvious agendas on each side. Just wait for further information to be given and comment then.

Hmmm, maybe when people said "LBP will be HUGE" they meant like this. Just look at what this one game alone did to this site.

Also this may sound strange but I am actually enjoying myself in this thread. I am not getting heated or anything like that, I am actually having quite a bit of fun and learning some new stuff at the same time.

I think so... either way, to me it's not a matter of what's right... but why people think something is right.

If you end up being right, but used a flawed method.... (Choosing to agree with one site.... out of many.) it's going to lead you to keep making wrong assumptions.

The methods people use to come up with their conculsions are the problem.

It's not really a matter of throwing VGchartz under a bus as Ioi... or i guess i should say Brett himself will tell you the Software numbers are a work in progress.

Yeah I know software could be off, it is just the "userbase" and "61.3M" that got me all confused.

I believe that "userbase is 61.3M" was present on every website am I right?

Either way, in the end it won't even matter how much thought I put into this.

@Twesterm

You know, I was going to edit my thread and mention that very same thing.

Yeah, but there are plausable reasons to use hardware from the last time you reveleaed it.

Not however old software data.  So the data being old arguement never held up.

You wouldn't say "So many PS3's and PSPs combined with a number because it might make investors go "Hey wait they are nowhere near hitting their goals."

LBP is in the bargain bins/price reduced in many stores.   This lower number is probably right because games that sell well do not get put in the bargain bin.

Which stores are those?? I didnt like the game much from my rental, but if I can get it on the cheap Ill pick it up I will.

Almost every store in the UK. I got my copy of Little Big Planet from there as well.

Also an unbelievable amount of shit and hypocrisy in this fucking thread. Gears 2 was reported to have only shipped 3.3M, and vgchartz had it at about 3.5M. I don't remember a fucking 6 page thread about that. LBP is a fucking amazing game, and I am very sorry all you shitty sony haters can't appreciate that. Get out from under your fucking rock and appreciate genius. The Kaz quote is so ambiguous. I trust Brett's numbers.

Yes I'm drunk.

Yeah it was overtracked and the numbers got adjusted down a bit. I think Gears 2 might still be overtracked by ~200k

Like I said at the beginning, I only started really getting into the numbers like this recently, so I knew right off the bat that I would most likely end up wrong, which is fine by me because for everytime I am wrong it usually means I learn something new.

One last thing though.

Why would they have used up to date Software shipped numbers and not up to date shipped Hardware numbers though? They should have up to date shipped for both right? Like people said before, wouldn't they give the best number they can?

You probably already answered it though and my brain is just having trouble comprehending it right now, lol.

Sorry if I am being a pain in the ass, just trying to learn some stuff here. If the hardware was up to date just like LBP was originally thought to have then I could have avoided all of this, although to be honest I actually had genuine fun going batshit crazy and coming up with "crazzy" ideas.

Thanks for all your replys so far though. Seriously.

Haha, not again!

It already took us a ton of pages to get through the overtracking!

Does he count bundles in...?

Nobody knows.

We don't know if:

- He's counting bundles or not

- Those numbers are up to date and if not, what is the date that Kaz is using

- He said sold or playing or playing online

We do know that the numbers for US (up till December) + Japan (Up until December) + UK (up until January 3rd) are > 600K, so unless the game bombed for December and bombed in the rest of the world, then 1.3 million figures might just be playing online and/or outdated and/or not counting bundles. If 1.3 million is up to date then Gfk, NPD, Famitsu, MC and VGChartz have all overtracked the game which is unlikely IMO.

NPD and official sources have owned VGChartz time and time again. Look what it has become, people now believe this site over official sources. I think it may be time to shut this site down.

Xander, you have been disproven, you are wrong. Give it up guy.
